Default Super Mario World Hacks - Where to start?

After seeing the New Super Mario Bros Wii I realised how much I've missed a 2D Mario platformer on a home console, so I decided to check out some of the many many hacks that are out there via my Wii's wonderful SNES emulation.

But, seeing how there are hundreds of these at various degrees of quality/completion, I am very keen to hear people's recommendations and feedback on some of these. Where's a good place to start?

    Your input is much appreciated.

There's a user by the name of Goron50 on youtube that plays through a tonne of hacks. They most of the time are good ones so they could help you track some down as well.

Every game can be enjoyable, you just need to be more creative with some then others.

    That's not nice.

Demo World: The Legend Continues and The Second Reality Project will get you started.

There are a couple of other good ones I've heard of, but I can't recall their names at the moment. You may also enjoy the Mushroom Kingdom Fusion beta and Super Mario: Blue Twilight DX.

EDIT: Brutal Mario! That's what I was thinking of. See also DDCecil's hack.

I like DDCecil's hack, because it isn't freaking impossible. Super Demo World is great demonstration of what is possible with FuSoYa's editor, but unless you use savestates, it is nearly impossible.
<Evan_G> i keep my games in an inaccessable crate where i can't play them

Demo World isn't that bad. I mean, if you're going to call that "impossible", then you've severely limited the available vocabulary for Kaizo Mairo.

I enjoyed Mario is missing 2: Luigi's Adventure. That's the only hack I've finished so far.

    THIS

The only fun part of Super Kaizo World is watching videos of other people trying to play it.

Yes those videos are fun but it has to have commentary. Its always fun to listen to someone have a coniption fit over Kaizo Mario World.

Probably the most impressive one I've happened to watch so far is the NicoNico music video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsd96jy3GWY
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz0PaPpmGa8 (with vocals!)
Of course, that's not exactly "playable".

I may have to redownload this one, last time I tried to play the ROM Luigi kept running everywhere without me controlling him.

Typical of people to rat me out... ah well hah hah... but yeah Kaizo World is one of those WTF moments indeed... best video I've found of someone playing it:
