Default PS2 disc motor won't spin most of the time.

Well I got a dirt cheap PS2 from a thrift, it was dusty as heck, I took it apart and cleaned it throughly. It's reading games now but not always, the disc will spin for a second or two and stop. Once in a while it will actually spin long enough to read a game and I can play it. Is there an easy fix for this? I'm moderately handy with this stuff but need some pointers, could the motor have become packed with dust internally or is there some other issue?

    Thanks in advance.

Check the laser ribbon cables, if you are careful enough, clean the laser lens and the laser lens mirror(located inside the actual laser)....Sounds like an issue with the laser...

I cleaned the laser lens with an ultra soft brush. I'll check the cables, what is the mirror and how do I clean that?

Well, I'm assuming that it is a Fat PS2 right?....To access the mirror you'll definitely have to removed the laser away from the transport...Is not a begginers procedure though, But I have fixed a few PS2's this way...Make sure to turn on and off the Ps2 after it has been unplugged a couple of time to get rid of any remaining electrical charge.... Removed the plastic top casing of the laser head to reveal the innears of the laser, right at the bottom you'll see the mirror....Remember is not a begginers task and you must not rip or pull the laser inner small/thin copper wires that you'll see once the pastic top enclosure cover is out...
