Default Need Help On How To Get NAT Type 2 For PS3

I read the same bunch of how to's for getting NAT 2, I've opened the same damn ports with the same settings and I still have NAT 2. This sucks when I want to network battle someone on SF4 and all I can do is host a custom match or go to arcade mode and have someone find me during games. I have a Netgear WGR614 v9 Router with a Motorola modem and I need someone who knows what they're talking about or can at least point me in the right direction to someone who does. Thanks!

Wow... that's a lot of ports I'd really rather not forward through to my LAN... I should scan the thing locally to see what it's up to.

Kinda freaky the stuff they run in those consoles nowadays - now with web services.

Yeah this is great and all but these are the exact same instructions I keep getting that I've followed numerous times and apparently still can't get to Nat 2. Just tried yet again. No digital dice.

What setting do you currently have? NAT 1 or 3?

Do you have an active software firewall?

Is your modem/router software on your computer set to allow changes to your port settings?

Just tossing some ideas out there.

What messages are you getting on your PS3 when you try and change your settings? Or, are you not getting any messages?

Here's the answers to the best of my knowledge, respectively:

I currently have NAT 3, so I'm able to set SF4 settings so that people can search for me and fight when I'm in arcade mode, but I can't do Network battles, I can only create a custom match and wait till someone shows up, I can't search for anyone.

I went into the settings of my router and made all said changes to the ports, double checked each of them. When I did that, my PS3/PC and all other devices are able to get online, but I seem to only have the issues when playing SF4. Then again I haven't tried RE5 online yet, but in any case that's what's going on now.

What I can't tell is if I have a bridged connection or not. I don't have a phone line, I only have an existing connection for the internet through ATT. Also the number of my default router and primary DNS are the same, if that makes any difference. My secondary router number is all 0's. I only have one router.

A.) Make sure UPnP is enabled on both your router and ps3.

B.) Enter these DNS numbers at the custom setup:

    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220

If this works or not let me know, I had this same problem and fixed it without opening any port. Also "i'm sure you have checked this" make sure DHCP is enabled and you have enough connections going out so nothing is conflicting, set your ip address for your ps3 about in the middle range of channels availiable.

Like if you have 50 DHCP channels and your router starting ip is 192.168.1.100, then set your ps3 ip to 192.168.1.125 to make sure you have no conflicts, probably not an issue, but a thought and worth a shot also.

Okay, I entered the numbers as my primary and secondary on the PS3 custom settings, enabled UPnP on both devices, made sure DHCP is enabled. My IP ends in a 2 so I bumped it up to 22 (or 23 I believe). However, nothing changed. Still NAT 3. I do want to point out that I still have those ports open & I don't know if it would make a difference if I disable those ports and leave the settings that you gave me?

    Some extra info here:

If it makes any difference, my IP begins in a 10., rather than the standard 192. I think this had something to do with me previously having to bridge my connection due to the old phone line that was shared with the internet line, but as I stated previously I've only one line soley for the internet.

Seems like this guy got his working with just the firmware update (Westell DSL Modem and Netgear WG614 ):

Here is another talk close to what you say I think (though Linksys):

Either way, searching and asking on the Playstation Forums is your best bet.

I recommend putting your PS3 in the router's "DMZ".

Yeah I just followed all these instructions and I'm still getting NAT 3. It may have something to do with my ISP, though I don't know what exactly I would ask of them to change on their end in order for me to reach NAT 2. Here's another nifty little note, I decided to hardwire my router to my PS3 in order to get NAT 1 but guess what? Still NAT 3. I think I may end up trying the Playstation forums as BH suggested.

Take the router out of it and plug your PS3 directly into the modem. If your NAT is still screwed up, then it's your ISP.
