Default Looking for opinions on the Firebox Genesis

    As seen here

Anyone own one? How's the compatibility? How does the SD Card slot work?

Thanks guys, I couldn't find much other than quick one line reviews on a few other sites so I'm not sure what the real feature set is.

The description says this is officially licensed by Sega so I would expect compatibility to be very high. They're calling it the Model 4 Genesis. Looks like it's still a pre-order though. Maybe you can save states to the SD card. If so that would be great. It also comes with 20 built in games and it's smaller than a Genesis Model 3. Also supports wireless controllers.

    I want one.

Holy crap! Did you watch the video at the bottom of that page? Sega is making new Genesis games!!! You download the games from the internet onto the SD card. The new system is also 64-bit! In addition they also have a new Nomad-like handheld that plays original Genesis games plus has the SD card slot. I hope this hits big and increases the value of all our collections. Even if it doesn't, excellent work Sega and Innex!

He said the Genesis was originally a "32 bit" system, but I thought it was 16-bit. Am I missing something or was there a mistake?

This has apparently been out in the UK for awhile already. Hoping someone has some first hand experience.

It comes out in the U.S. sometime in July, so any impressions would have to come from a Euro version (is there one out?).

Found this thread through Google. I guess we're already talking about it here:

    http://www.digitpress.com/forum/show...=131818&page=2

You can read some customer product reviews here indicating it is at least somewhat available in the UK.

After reading up in the last thread, I don't think this console is for me (especially the blue look for the states) but I may check into the psuedo-Nomad portable they have coming out shortly.

If anyone has any information otherwise on the compatability issues or using the SD card to run ROMs native, I'd love to hear it.
