Default Are these Atari releases from Mexico?

I picked these two games up locally in a Movie Trading Company store. Frogger in an Atari style casing and Othello that states it's a 'video juego'. The store also had (but I didn't buy) an Atari 2600 Jr. that looked like the standard issue US release other than the fact that Spanish (or possibly Portuguese?) stickers were on the front and top. Does anyone know where these come from? Its got me wondering. I'd imagine they were a Mexico release, since we've got a large immigrant population here, but I'd like confirmation.

The Othello is Brazilian (from here: http://www.atarimania.com/detail_sof...RSION_ID=17226

I would assume Frogger is too.

Well, they don't look that much alike, and Portuguese is somewhat similar to Spanish. I can imagine a Mexican cartridge ending up in Texas, I really have to wonder how a Brazilian Atari console ended up here. Especially since I didn't think Atari had any presence in Brazil at that time, which is why there were so many pirate consoles on the market there.

I really doubt that's from down here. Back then (and even now) we get our games imported from the US of A, or worse, Spain (when it comes to PC games anyway).

I don't think so. That is the very same game that was bought along with my Atari 2600 Jr., Missile Command and Dig Dug, 22 years ago. My father got them from "Hermanos Vazquez" of all places. O_o

    1. Yes, the Frogger cart is a pirate (obviously).

    2. Regardless of where it was found, chances are that it's not of Mexican origin (very few carts are). Most of the pirate companies were in South America (Brazil/Argentina) or Asia (Hong Kong/Taiwan). Those carts that izarate posted above next to his Frogger cart are Cooper Blacks from Taiwan.

izarate, are those NTSC or PAL?

So? Wal-Mart sells BOOTLEG FAMICLONES down here (Mexicali, BC). I can't imagine it being any different down there. :P

Well, now that you mention it I guess it's a possibility.

That top left cart made my day, I always wondered how the first 4 games in the Space Channel series were

I tried the cartridges out yesterday. The screen didn't roll, so I'm assuming they're NTSC. They could be PAL-M, which is fairly close to NTSC from what I've read, and would play normally in a non-Brazilian console. So, it seems they're pirates from South America in most likelihood. I find that kind of thing fascinating, how a game made on another continent migrated here over the years. Anyway, thanks for everybody's sleuthing!
