Steve, I've liked you for awhile and we've done some good trades, but I am VERY pissed to see you having copied my auction listing descriptions. Not cool at all. Please change them asap. Thank you.

There's nothing in the description that isn't true. Everything in the listing is factual.

Also, I've been using that same description for quite a long time.

Who gives a crap if some of the language was copied from one of your descriptions over a year and a half ago?

It's not proprietary information. I don't need your permission; and it's not like anyone is going to confuse my auctions for you and vice-versa.

I do notice that you don't have anything constructive to say in any of my For Sale threads though - pointing out when I resell something I bought from Target or wherever.
    Stop derailing my threads.

Wow, not the response I was hoping for. Very surprised. It's against ebay policy and it will be reported today. Just because you've been stealing for awhile doesn't make it okay. Other members here feel the same way I know. Here's the ebay policy:

    http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/...ext-theft.html

"The seller copies a substantial amount of another member’s description and pastes it into a listing, without receiving the original writer’s permission."

This is something I take pretty seriously, sorry.

Actually, yes, you do need permission to copy someone else's writing, either in part or in full. It doesn't matter if it's all relevant and factual or not, it's still theft of someone else's work. You've copies RareBucky virtually word for word, without a second thought. If what is said is true and factual, then you should have found another way to include this information, and not steal the description from someone else!

Stealing is still stealing, and fraud is still fraud. Copying someone else's description and posting it as your own is still plagiarism, regardless of whether you happen to change a few of the words to your own. All are serious offences under eBay rules, and are not to be taken lightly. Stealing someone's work is just lazy and unfair on the person who you stole it from, no matter how much of their work you use without giving credit to them.

Regardless of whether you think the auctions may or may not be confused with each other isn't the point, and neither is the age of the paragraphs stolen. The format used here is identical to RareBucky's, as is a great portion of the wording used. To me, this screams plagiarism. Not only have you robbed RB (And subsequently admitted to doing so, which was rather stupid as you've practically confessed to the crime), but you've also broken eBay policies.

At the very least, you could edit your listings IN YOUR OWN WORDS (Which do not remotely resemble RB's work), and maybe offer RareBucky an apology for raping his write-up. There is absolutely no cause for an argument here, especially when you are clearly in the wrong. Nothing you say will change that fact.

You're a thief, and a plagiarist, and a lazy one at that! I'm very surprised you even bothered to alter the information about you in the description!

What's sad here is that it even matters.

    I'll make the changes though.

Mind your own business and get a life. It's not like either of us asked for your opinion.

If RB had a problem, he should have sent me a pm. I could have talked about it with him.

Your take on the matter is irrelevant.

    Very nice products, Man !

And about the "text stealing" .... don't give a crap; if the photos were stolen, that would be different. And for my experience with RB, don't give a crap about him either; how he can complaint about you re-selling some stuff when he takes advantage of his contacts to get VERY cheap products to re-sell them at VERY HIGH prices ...

Keep up, buddy; i am gonna bid on some of your products !

I guess you'll be reported to ebay soon then as well if you think stealing is ok. Try reading the ebay policy I linked to before you make uninformed comments.

    Thanks.

All changes made to auctions without bids; obviously cannot change those.

In the future - be a man, address me privately. You only did this to draw attention to yourself.

Don't act like a 5 year old cry-baby, you are a man; behave like that.

The text you are talking about isn't even a description of a game or something that can be patented; there are hundreds of older sellers that wrote a similar policies and they can argue that you stole it from them.

Those texts are quite generic, don't be an ass

    It's copyright infringement.

I was going to check out your auctions, but seeing your response in this thread makes me doubt whether I want to buy anything from you

If that text could be copyrighted, EVERY text you write can be subject to a lawsuit ....

Look, the bottom line is I liked the format that he presented his item descriptions.

Is there anything special about them? No. Why he even cares is beyond me.

What I'm upset about is that he didn't address it privately. Had he done so, I would have reacted differently.

Point of fact is that text like that is not copyrighted, so there is no infringement - whether ebay says so or not.

What I'm upset about is that this is not the first, nor second time that RB has made snide ass remarks about something I'm selling.

None of you know about those, so you shouldn't comment.

If you want to bid on my stuff, fine. If not, fine. Just don't pass judgement on things you don't know crap about.

    In theory it could be.

Point of law is that if he created it himself, it's copyrighted. It's not like you have to register something with the copyright office in order to gain copyright protection. Once you create a work, it's protected. I mean, I personally don't care, but he does, and he's the one that created it.

This doesn't belong in Buy/Sell. Thats why we've got Everything Auctions.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

(Edit: Whoops old thread!) I don't think that this would make me question Orrimarrko's ability to deliver as a seller (I think I've bought from him before, long ago, no problems I would think). Still surprised at the reaction however.

Since there is some confusion about how the law stands:

    - You don't copyright facts, recipes, or processes

    - However, the text that contains said facts, or explains the recipe or process, can be copyrighted

I also note that copying somebody's facts is unpopular because people who write stuff like to receive some recognition for their work, and may mislead other people into thinking that the copyist did it all themselves. It is basically Not a Good Thing (TM).

Agreed. I would only add that with a process, you don't copyright it, you patent it.
