Post TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled gets re-priced to 800 MS points [Joystiq]

Cowabunga! Bodacious! Other TMNT saying! Pardon the hoopla, but Ubisoft has confirmed to Joystiq that next week's XBLA "Summer of Arcade" release, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled, will debut at 800 ($10), 400 ($5) less than the originally announced 1200 ($15) price.

"We wanted to give something to the loyal TMNT fans in honor of the 25th anniversary," Ubisoft responded when asked about the last-minute change. Then again, dare we really question the generosity of a mega-publisher when it actually want us to shell out less for its games?

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!] TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled gets re-priced to 800 MS points originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 31 Jul 2009 01:15:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Probably because not many people were going to buy this for $15.

I'm considering buying it now. Smart move on Ubisoft's part.

Why did they make this X360 exclusive? I'd love to have this on PS3.

Nah, supposedly it's coming to PSN sometime later.

Microsoft made some deal where they would get certain downloadable games first as part of their Summer Gaming promotion. It's coming to the PS3 but not until a few weeks later, same thing with Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

Wasn't this game originally supposed to come out July 22?

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I was planning on buying this regardless as well. Price drops are always good on games that I was planning on buying.

I finally played the demo and have to say this game is one example of "2.5D" gaming gone bad. It's too difficult to line up with an enemy and actually hit it. For every hit that connects, 2 or 3 miss. This makes for some lackluster and unsatisfying combat...which is kind of the point in this style of game. Big time disappointment. I'm going to be saving $10 and stick with my SNES version.

Hmmm, any word if the SNES version will be hitting Virtual Console? I seriously doubt it, but it would be nice to see...

Played the demo and it is pretty sucky. While I dont like the graphic style, the flaw for me is that the game feels like it is in fast forward. The lack of the option to use the original(or updated original) sprites takes a lot of heart out of the game as I relate the turtles to how they look in the cartoon. Only reason I might buy is for the 4 player aspect but its not worth $10.

The lame generic graphics totally ruin this for me. If you cannot keep the original style then why bother releasing the game? This happened to some of the Sega Ages releases as well like Space Harrier and Outrun.

The graphics are okay and really not that offensive to me (would be better with a 2D mode of course), but it's the music that is a total abortion. Big time fail there. Really, it's f'ing awful, but that's what you get when the game is remade by an entirely different company. The game is fun with 2-4 players, but single player just makes me want to play the far superior (even to the arcade IMHO) SNES TMNT IV. Not to echo everyone here, but that's my take as well.

Oh, and the jumping attacks are totally broken. As anyone who has played any of the classic TMNT beat 'em ups knows, this is a travesty, as they are integral to the way the game is played. Save your $10 for Garou or KOF '98, unless you absolutely MUST have it.

The game is not that bad. It's just not a carbon copy of the arcade's gameplay mechanics. It's different that you can now attack in eight directions, and for the most part the enemies can also attack you likewise. And jumpkicking is the main way to not losing a life when fighting Tokka/Rahzar and especially Shredder.

Yeah, the music could have been done better, they had some aspects ok but didn't follow through with a real soundtrack. The screen can get hectic with four players, a bunch of Foot and explosions obscurring the view but th game is still fun. It's better than the 3D TMNT crap Konami has churned out.

If there's one complaint to really be had it would simply be that the bosses are to small, especially Tokka/Rahzar and Leatherhead.

8-way attacking + 2.5D = fail. No way I'll be picking this one up after reading that.

I'm on the fence about this. I tried the demo and I thought it was ok. It's nowhere near the awesomeness of the SNES version but it's ok in it's own right. I just dont know if wanna spend $10 on it right now....

After playing the arcade port on MAME, I will say Reshelled is (partially) right. The original arcade version was looser, combos were harder to get off, and enemies were constantly in your way punching you out of the attack. By comparison, in the SNES port, you were "locked" onto an enemy when the combo started, which always let you finish it before moving on.

The problem with Reshelled is that by adding the additional movement, things are worse than they used to be. It used to be left or right to attack, and stupidly it is now left, right, up down, and the four diagonals. That just makes things even more chaotic and hard to control, not to mention the speed being jacked up. Oh, and the combos aren't even the same. Leonardo used to do a small jump and swing downward during the last hit, and that's now gone.

The less said about the atrocious music and visuals the better. What happened to the color and why is everything so dark? It doesn't fit the style and goofy humor of the game. Also, one of the early trailers did have remixed original music, so what the hell happened?
