Default NES/SNES/Genny Games with Battery Back-up/Save feature

***Updated list of NES/SNES/GEN games with battery back-up. Thanks to all that contributed.

I'm looking for a list of all NES/SNES/Genny games with batteries.

Not particularly interested in all the sports titles, but anything else that had a save feature.

    Thanks,

    -Mike

These are the ones I am sure of that have a battery save:

    The Legend of Zelda
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
    Startropics
    Kirby's Adventure
    Final Fantasy
    Dragon Warrior
    Dragon Warrior II
    Dragon Warrior III
    Dragon Warrior IV
    Startropics II

Games below this text were found on the NES reproduction site (showing cartridges that had batteries) and may or may not be completely accurate, but I'm guessing it is.

    Base Wars
    Crystalis
    Deja Vu
    Magician
    Might & Magic
    Pool of Radiance
    Shadowgate
    Tecmo Basketball
    Tecmo Superbowl
    Uninvitied
    Wario Woods
    Bard's Tale
    Golf Power
    Hillsfar
    NES Open Golf
    Ultima Exodus
    Ultima Quest Avatar
    Ultima War Destiny

I'm guessing that might be most of them. Someone else may know more. I'm guessing there are a lot more for SNES and Genesis. And really, what's with the no love for the SEGA Master System and its battery save system games?

Edit: Added in Startropics 2, should have been obvious but not to me I guess...

A good way to find out every single one of them is fire up all of the roms for the system in an emulator one by one. Then when you're done, take a look at the save battery folder. Then bingo you're done. It's as easy as that. It will work for Game Boy and SMS too.

I'm a collector, but only to a certain extent.
Not as extreme as Rickstilwell though.[/quote]

^ I don't fuck around with emulators. Never have; never will.

Thanks for your help with the NES games, Doc Dib.

Anyone else know of any more NES games?

Just look at the backs of the carts, for the NES. Ones with battery save have the gold "hold reset button down while turning off the power" sticker; other games do not.

For games you don't have though, yeah emulation is the easiest way by far. Plenty more NES games than that have battery save...

Unfortunately, I don't have an entire library of NES games to look at the back label. That's why I was hoping someone had compiled a list of these games.

I have a list of which Genesis games use EEPROM or FRAM, that is on-cart saving WITHOUT a battery... did it as a part of my big list of consoles listing what save types each one has. I haven't done lists of all of battery-backed games though, sorry.

The newest version of the save-types list of mine can be found here: http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5965

    Oh, ok. Thanks, though.

Surely one of you other retrogamers have some insight on this???

Let it flow, boys and girls.

Prehistorik Man? No, like most third-party platformers on the SNES, it doesn't have a battery.

Well, that's why I wanted a list. According to NP magazine, it had battery back up.

I found this that I did sometime within the past year, hadn't posted this anywhere...

I was originally going to do Sega's stuff too, to show the point about how Nintendo usually had saving in its SNES games while Sega almost never had it in its Genesis ones, but only got through the SNES part, as you can see here. The ones without a save type were ones that I didn't know when making the list and didn't get around to checking and filling in.

First/Second Party Published Titles Only, First Release Date (in any region)

Games in (quotes) are third party titles just being published by the first party, not developed by them or using their franchise.

    Not including Satellaview for now.

(NP) means that the game was only for the Nintendo Power download service.

Offhand, of what I haven't seen mentioned here, I remember that Maniac Mansion for NES had a battery.

The person who runs vNES may have a good list for NES games, as he added a save feature to those games and had to compile a list of them for all the NES games he has on hand - I'm going to check with him to see if he has that list saved somewhere.

I don't think the Master System has many, it probably wouldn't be a very long list... Phantasy Star, Ys, Miracle Warriors, what else?

I confirmed you're correct on all three of those.

The only other one in my inventory of over 50 SMS games is Golden Axe Warrior.

A couple you'd expect to have battery (at least based on the title, ) don't - specifically SpellCaster and Lord of the Sword
