    Default Game storage question

Since moving into my new place, I am trying to reorganize my collection. I have a few questions about how others store their stuff. How do you handle a situation where the game cases are more than 1 size, such as the PS1 with its jewel cases and long boxes? That would also go for the Saturn and Sega CD since there are some games for those systems that came in jewel cases instead of the long cases. Also, how do you handle the storage of games that just came in cardboard sleeves such as demo discs, etc.? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I organize as follows: Boxed games first, largest boxes (i.e., RE5 collector's edition) first, then smaller boxes/cases. If it's cartridges, cart-onlies go next. Cardboard sleeves go last. For each box type, everything is arranged in alphabetical order.

I do something similar. I separate by system, and then large boxes from left to right, carts, then sleeves. For smaller collections (for me sega CD and original xbox) I put them on the same shelf, since their heights are close, so I don't have a ton of space above the smaller items. I only have a few longboxes so those I just kind of lay on top of some jewel case games. All is done alphabetically.

And PC games have an entirely different set of shelving units, as those boxes and cases can vary wildly. I still separate by PC type though.

Oh, yes. I don't think I mentioned that I do arrange by system in a mostly chronological patter (Atari, for example, is first, and PS3 is last).

arrange the longer boxes horizontally and the jewel case games vertically on top of them.

My games are just stuffed onto a shelf with little to no organization.

All my systems are separated by system, so since my stuff is on 'adjustable shelved units' I normally just have a single setting for that system. The only stuff thats split off, is the Longbox PlayStation stuff, I keep all those together, which is separate from the rest of my PS games due to their size.

The same would be said of Sega CD/Saturn, if I had any games for them.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

I store all my long box/case games standing up in alphabetical order. All my jewel case games(and cardboard sleeve games/demos) get stacked on top of one another alphabetically. This means that my 3DO long box games are in a different spot than my 3DO jewel case games but atleast it looks neatly organized.

Everyone has given me a lot to think about. Before I moved, I was using wall mounted CD racks to hold my PS1 and import Saturn games. Of course, since the racks were designed for single disc cases, they wouldn't hold the big cases or the Saturn cases that were just slightly larger than single disc cases.

Once I clean up the mess that is my room, I will have to post a couple pictures of how I have it laid out now.

Agreed. I use five shelf book cases for the majority of my collection. It holds everything in tact and allows me to display for multiple systems on each book case.

That's actually what I have done for now. I have 2, 5 shelf bookcases on one wall and was going to put a TV table between them with a nice LCD TV on it. Then I realized that the TV wouldn't really work out for me since the vast majority of my gaming is pre-PS1 which tends to look better on a CRT. So I am not sure what I am going to put between them now.

All my stuff is on bookcases too, nothing fancy, just stuff I've gotten from family members or garage sales. Though its kind of just piled on, and hard to get to because I have stacks of systems on the floor in front.

I started to get organized, and my gamecube games are on one bookshelf nicely shelved, but not in alpha order or anything. Same with NES games. The rest are in piles.

    Billy Bookshelves.

I finally caved and bought 2 of the cheaper ones (white, $60 each) with the height extension ($20 each). Glad I finally did it, and they reach the ceiling

I actually found that I liked the other shelves better (not Billy...I think these are the slightly more expensive ones at Ikea-Besta shelves, still adjustable shelving though). I bought 2 door windows (where I store my consoles for the games beneath), a lighting kit to put between the two windows (to accent the consoles), shelving underneath for the games, and shelf legs. It looks great for my NES and Atari items, but I need to get more for the other systems. I can post some pictures if anyone would like.

Also, those shelf legs are the only things that saved my video game collection after my apartment was flooded. ALL of my other furniture that didn't have legs was ruined. $50 total (for legs on my shelves) to save >$5000.

In the case of PS1 games, I have the jewels first alphabetized followed by longboxes also alphabetized.
