Default Making a Saturn play backups?

I'd like to play through Panzer Dragoon Saga, as well as a couple of the RPGs I recently picked up. I don't even want to touch the actual games, though, but the closest I can come to that would be to make backups of mine and play the backups. I remember you have to mod a Saturn to do that... can someone guide me to some instructions for that?

Feel free to boot the post if this violates rules. Keep in mind I own every game I intend to back up, I just don't want to play the originals.

If you're looking to buy the backup modchip, you NEED a saturn which has round buttons. Oval button Saturn chips are HARD TO FIND.

I just got snaked at a thrift today for a round buttoned Saturn. Bastard! I hope it doesn't work! >

    Anyway, read this:

Thanks for the info... i'll have to pick up another Saturn. Mine is VERY early in the release, I bought it when the Saturn was first brought out.

BUH... looks like these chips are hard to get now... anyone have a modded saturn available?

If you have the actual games, as you seem to indicate, then the path of least resistance is definitely to just play the originals. What's hard about that? The risk of damaging them is negligible compared to the annoyance factor of getting a pirate-ready Saturn.

Modding the Saturn is the ONLY way to play CDRs with it. Kind of a hassle if you can't afford the spendy games for it, but if you can't, well, it's the only way to go. I just buy originals myself, but I started collecting while the Saturn was out and I got all the expensive games before they went up up up, so I've been lucky that way. I'd make a CDR of my Panzer Dragoon Saga and play the CDR if I could too Hate to actually USE discs that cost THAT much!

I thought it was illegal to talk about mod chips around here, no matter what the intent is.

Well, you're the moderator, make the call if you feel it should be made. There won't be any hard feelings.

I definitely am not into pirating, I just would rather not have my PDS disks out where my kids may get at them. I just don't want to have to be that angry at my 4 year old son because he took a very rare disk and played catch with it.

Making backups is legal, even in the free-est country in the world, The U.S..

Being able to use them in the free-est country in the world, however, is illegal.

Mark my words, years from now, when more CD based systems are classics, retro gamers wil either be modded, or will have many non playable games. backing up Radiant Silvergun makes all the sense in the world. Like saving ROM's, it could be considered a vital service to gamer's everywhere.

Well, I'm just a "paper mod" and I hold no weight around here.

I just mentioned it, because a while back I was looking for a modded PSX to play imports with, since mine had recently died. The thread got locked.

    It was nothing against you.

My mod chip fizzled out on me, and I'll need to buy a new one eventually (y'know, like when I actually have money for once). If anyone knows of a good source for Saturn mod chips, PM me. Thanks!

Not true, I do NOT have a modded Saturn, I do the swap trick. Yes, ladies and gentleman, it is NOT as difficult as they say it is and I've been doing it for a good while. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't have been able to play through Dragon Force again...oh how I loved that game.

I'vbe done the swap trick too. It works. However, I value the longevity of my Saturn, and refuse to do it. It's too hard on the motor and spindle in my opinion.

    Works though.
