Default Giant Monster Games (Other Than Rampage or Godzilla) for home consoles.

I'd like to request some help in compiling a good comprehensive list of home console video games which feature gameplay where the player is a giant monster in the vein of Godzilla-type cinema (kaiju eiga). I'm especially interested in any unknown ones for classic consoles, but I'd like to know about modern options as well.

The catch is that I already know about Rampage and all its various ports and sequels, as well as anything involving Godzilla. Those are covered. I'd like to hear about ones less well-known or forgotten. A couple more criteria to consider:

    - U.S. Releases only (I need this list for an upcoming project. Don't have time or money for imports.)

    - The "Less Robots" rule: If the game involves only giant robots (Iron Soldier, Mechassault), it doesn't count. If it involves only one or two robots amid a majority of monsters (e.g. - War of the Monsters, PS2) that's fine.

    - Giant apes are fine (and who doesn't love giant apes?) as long as it's not Donkey Kong or Congo Bongo. Those aren't necessarily "giant" apes, nor are they necessarily playable characters.

    - Games where you, as a human, fight against the giant monster are okay so long as that's the prevalent theme of the game, and not just something you do in a particular boss fight. And it has to have the Saturday Matinee cinematic thing in mind; monsters rampaging through the streets and all that. Flying in space and shooting lasers is not the same thing.

So, with those parameters in mind, the only ones I can think of off the top of my head are:

    War of the Monsters (PS2)
Primal Rage (Genesis, SNES, Jaguar, etc)
    King of the Monsters (Genesis)

    Anyone?

And of course there's the various King Kong movie games, for starters.

    Default Raaar.

Ah, thanks for that Jorpho. KOTM on the Genny was the only port with which I was familiar. Looks great on the NeoGeo...Okay, keep `em coming.

I think those were also on C64, not sure about CC&C though.

Other than that...you've hit about everything I know of. Except I think there was a King of the Monsters 2 as well, maybe on Genesis.

While this is a bit of a stretch:

    Bart's Nightmare (SNES/Genesis)

In one of the games, Bart is Bartzilla and he has to fight Homer Kong and Momthra.

King Kong on the 360? Not the most shining example of the genre admittedly but it still counts as a huge monster fix.

Gamera had his moment in the sun too, come to think of it.

I Was An Atomic Mutant was a decent budget title about giant monsters destroying cities, it's for PC tho.

No, although I did consider it. It's a fantasy setting as opposed to the monsters-knocking-over-skyscrapers aesthetic.

King of the Monsters I and II, SNES, Genesis, Neo Geo

    Ultraman, SNES

I don't know if this counts to you or not but several of the Power Rangers games may fit that category.
If they made a movie out of your top five worst sins, what would it be rated?

If the mentioned EDF counts, there are three main titles in the series, two for PS2, one for 360. There is also a tactics game for the ps2, but I've never gotten far enough through that one to check for the kaiju.

Moby Games has a giant monster games listing.

If you are including Flash-based games, City Smasher is an ok Rampage World Tour-type game.

I used to have this for Amiga. It's pretty fun, especially eating the little people running around your feet. It never got a console port.

A game that really fits the 50s giant monster sci fi theme well is It Came From the Desert for the TurboCD. It's a mix of Them and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Good stuff. It's really fun, except the little mini games you play get tedious after a while.
