    Default Gameboy: Atomic Punk question

So I got the game Atomic Punk for the original gameboy. To my surprise it is very very much bomberman. Every aspect of the game. Anyone know the deal with this game, is it a legit copy of bomberman or an offspring of it?

They're both from the same company(Hudson), it was just renamed for some reason. I'm not sure what that reason was though. Also, the arcade versions of Bomberman and Atomic Punk were both released by Irem in 1991.

Even if they weren't...game ideas can't really be copyrighted. That's why there can be so many clones and blatant ripoffs of games with just graphics and other IP parts changed.

Ah, so Atomic Punk is the son of Bomberman. Mystery solved?

If I recall the name atomic punk came from the euro release, since bomb is bad and stuff, not quite sure why it was released in the usa.

This is the best Bomberman portable game I ever played. It was released in Japan as Bomberboy & Dynablaster in Europe. It was suppose to be a complete spinoff series from the Bomberman for portable system. I guess the name didn't catch on.

Thanks for the info, always thought Atomic Punk looked suspiciously like a straight port of Bomberman. Maybe I'll track this one down...
