Default I need a joystick for Wii. (RetroUSB adapter?)

I picked up Shikigami no Shiro III for Wii, and with Murasama out and TvC on the way it looks like I need an arcade joystick for Wii.

The Wii is Gamecube compatible, but apparently the only controllers that work are GC game pads with Nintendo chips in them; none of my PS2/Xbox/GC joysticks work with Wii, nor do any of my PS2>Xbox/GC adapters work with any of my PS1/2 joysticks. My Nintendo GC controller works fine though.

My options so far are to drop $60 on that Fighting Stick Wii, but I don't want to use anything that connects to the Wii remote. Or get a Classic Controller or GC controller and hack it into another joystick (which I'd have to build, costing more money) or perhaps one of those RetroUSB SNES adapters would work? I could use the SNES Advantage or Capcom Fighter Power Stick, but it'll probably only work with an official Nintendo control pad.

Does anyone have a RetroUSB SNES adapter and a joystick to try out? Or any other ideas?

Not sure what you're talking about with "Nintendo pads with chips" I use PS2 pads and sticks on my Wii with one of these and they work fine (maybe it has something to do with the multi-system adapter you're using) -

PS2 to Gamecube Adapter, cheap + free shipping:

    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.21329

Pick one of those up then get the PS2 arcade stick of your choice.

Hori, Mad Catz Street Fighter 4, etc.

and you should be good to go for most fighting games (especially ones that allow for button customization ... which is like, all of them).

    *EDIT*

Did some testing just to be sure that my memory wasn't playing tricks on me.

The PS2 to Game Cube adapter does work with pads and sticks that I own (obviously not Nintendo chipped or branded ... since they were made for PS1/PS2), however, in the case of arcade sticks, it's going to depend on the game you want to play ... the PS2 to GC adapter maps the PS2's DIGITAL pad to Gamecube's Digital Pad and subsequently to any arcade stick's joystick ... SO if the fighting game doesn't use the d-pad as the movement method, you're SOL.

    *DOUBLE EDIT*

I recall that there were a few PS2 joysticks made where you could select whether the stick was functioning as the left analog or the d-pad ... I can't recall the make or manufacturer ... but I'm almost positive those were made. IF those happen to work with the PS2 to GC adapter they would be optimal for Wii or GC games that need to read the left analog as movement ... ah, it's moments like this that even WITH all of the miscelaneous gaming accessories that I own that I feel like I don't have ENOUGH doo-dads and adapters to solve a problem.

I know that some PS2->GC adaptors don't like non-analog pads.
I can use my Dualshock pads on Wii just fine, but my asciipad and my original PSX pads won't work at all.

When I got my Hori Wii stick, I was disappointed to find that it did not work with Star Soldier WiiWare... I haven't tried it on Metal Slug Anthology because I fear the results.

Going to have to snag a few GC-PS2 adapters myself I guess. Try and cover all my bases...

Does TvC support Gamecube pads? I could see myself building a custom stick just for that game.

I still use my Soul Calibur 2 GameCube sticks on the Wii.

Thanks Frankie, I'll pick up one of those and try it out. It had occurred to me that all of the Gamecube multi compatible joysticks and adapters I've been using are all Pelican products. Maybe the Wii doesn't like Pelican stuff. They also have the analog/digital toggle switch thing, and they don't work in either mode.

Icarus- That Star Soldier issue is messed up, I'd have been pretty pissed at that.

That would do it. I had a Pelican Universal stick that didn't work via the gamecube port or the ps2 to gamecube adapter I have. The adapter works fine for my friend's tekken 5 ps2 sticks, however, so it's just picky.

What I ended up doing was swapping the PCB in my Pelican out with a Cthulhu one. It's this multiconsole PCB designed by a guy over at shoryuken.com for use in arcade sticks. So the one I'm using will work on PS1, PS2, PS3, PC, Gamecube, Wii, and Xbox. I also understand it works with PS2 to Gamecube adapters on the Wii, so there's that too. Beyond that I'd say your only options are to padhack a gamecube controller or use the Wii hori.

Pelican stick does work pretty great with Tatsunoko and Shikigami now, though :P

Thanks for confirming that, Uber. Now I have another problem, the modified Hori Tekken 5 stick I was planning on using has a pelican board in it. I swapped the board with one of those yellow joysticks so I could have multi console support and autofire, so it looks like either way I go I have either a lot of work to do, a lot of money to spend, or both. (Money usually wouldn't be such a problem but I really don't plan on playing much Wii.) I also have that Pelican Univesal stick, and I guess the cheapest option would be to put the PS2 tekken 5 stick board into it, and use the adapter Frank talked about. Not the most comfortable joystick, but not the worst either. I do have some old Happ stuff lying around that would be an improvement over the Universal stick stock parts.

I also have one of these Naki Ultimate Fighting Sticks, they look neat but they're made out of ass and play like shit. I was thinking of taking this, switch that Chinese crap out with Sanwa stuff and hack a Wii Classic Controller board into it. It'd cost me about $70 to do, so I'm not too sure about that.

Heh, yeah, my Pelican is all Happ parts now. So really outside of the shell, there's nothing original about that thing anymore. I like the shell though, it's heavy enough that it won't go sliding around. That Naki thing though? Total mod city.

Reusing your Tekken 5 PCB should do the trick. I can't speak on that specific ps to gc adapter, but the one I have and another one that my friend has both work fine with the T5, so I don't see any reason why that one shouldn't.

I see it works as a classic controller, but I wonder if it allows you to play non CC games like New SMB?

New SMB doesn't allow for use of the Classic Controller??!!

Jeez, wow. That sucks. Sideways Wiimote is fine, but I know plenty of people who think the buttons are too small for their large fingers.

I guess these "shells" might be worth the $10 I've seen them selling for:

Holy crap, those are pretty cool. I'll have to check into a couple of them too. Depends on the button and pad action...
