    Default Collecting non-physical media?

I've started trying to amass a collection of odd/interesting "soft" gaming stuff.

By this I mean debug/unreleased ROMs, looping demo video files from kiosks, high-quality tech demo footage, 3D models and other files, etc.

Anyone else into doing this? Anyone know where to get some high quality tech demos? All the ones on Youtube look like garbage.

Not sure if this is quite what you mean in the purest sense, but Satellaview games are downloaded into rewritable flash memory, which makes collecting 8M Packs with data in them a borderline case. That's before you take into account Soundlink audio which was streamed off the Satellite radio, of course.

Since much of that is a bit tough for me to collect I've gotten a bunch of videos of gameplay pulled from the past, with players actually playing the games with the Soundlink audio and all. Keep most of it on Satellablog for anyone who cares to view.

GBA Video and other looping video ROMz (like the Twilight Princess demo on DS) are already included in GoodTools releases, so don't worry that nobody else is keeping them. Personally, they take up way too much hard drive space, plus they suck so I wouldn't want to keep them anyway. I'd generally rather save the space for something else - not that this is a major storage space issue on my new laptop drive, or that it would be if I installed a terabyte drive. It's mainly an issue of taking forever to download these things.

Out of the blue: VLC 1.0.2 released yesterday, go get it.

Yeah, I don't necessarily intend to just amass everything, but it would be nice to, say, have all the looping Gamecube kiosk footage (as some came on memory cards rather than the multi-game demo discs).

Or the aforementioned debug ROMs, things like that. I like non-retail stuff.

Anything that was released at retail I'd have less interest in.
