Default Newly discovered unreleased prototype found

I just picked up another unreleased game that arrived in the mail today. From what I understand only screen shots of this game have been found in the past, and this is the first confirmed cart in a collectors possession.

I haven't done more than open the shipping box, so more details are to come. It has a good back story, and I have a HUGE THANK YOU to give out later.

Let the speculation begin. . .

*Edit: I forgot to mention that it's an NES title.

I wish!!! This is what I've got:

This coming just shortly after the Japanese version was repro'd. Judging by the title screen alone there are definitely differences between the repro and my prototype though.

I also managed to score an AWESOME Monster in my Pocket prototype as well. The game is extremely early on, and there are plenty of differences. There's only one playable level broken down into three sections. There are no power ups yet, there are a ton of different sprites, and the title screen looks like it took four minutes to put together. What's the coolest part? In the released version you can play as "The Monster." In the version I have, you can play as "Frankenstein!" Pretty sweet if you ask me.

It's about time someone found Spy Vs. Spy 2, it was advertised and shown off several times in magazines. It was actually announced at the same time as the first game.

Holy fuck! This game was made by the same Konami dev team that worked on Kid Dracula (NES version), Team Murata Keikaku!

    I WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANT.

Sorry I haven't updated, I've been super busy with grad work. Here's the story:

I received a PM JJAAMMEESSNNEESS regarding some prototypes that were listed on eBay. I checked the link and noticed that "Spy Vs. Spy The Island Caper" was listed as one of the protos. The asking price was $300, and it had the "Best offer" option. Knowing that the game was unreleased, I slapped down an offer of $225. Why I did this, I have no idea. . .

Seeing that the game was unreleased, I decided to give my brother a call to see if he wanted me to buy it outright. It was early in the morning, and he was already on his way to work.

I called him up and explained that the game was listed and that I had made an offer. He immediately went ballistic! Although I knew the game to be unreleased, I had no idea that a prototype had never been discovered. Luckily for me, my brother was more knowledgeable on the matter. Having to sit through his barrage, I went forward and purchased the prototype. The rest is history.

My brother and I currently own 8 unreleased NES prototype, and this was our cheapest purchase to date. Why I hesitated, I'll never know. I'm just glad that a prototype that had been MIA for 20+ years is now safely dumped and backed up, never to be lost again.

This is pretty interesting, right after a modified ROM release of the Japanese version too. I don't come here too often, was surprised it never made it to NA or did I just miss it.

    Crazy coincidence, I know.

I posted over on NA as soon as it made it into my hands. I just figured DP would appreciate it as much (if not more) due to the interest in the prototype forum.

It was indeed. It was also released on a host of different computer platforms.

I don't have the Fami version, so I can't say how different my version is from the Japanese release. I would assume they're extremely similar, but I can't say for sure.

No you're correct, it was, saw one on ebay, too. I guess I thought my favorite Fami-site had all the games (www.famicomworld.com). Even more surprising is that I've never come across a rom for it. Are there actually released Famicom games that haven't been dumped? Surprising!

    I think this is it:
    http://www.famicomworld.com/Games/Game.php?dbid=771

The dates would make sense and according to google translate, it means "Spy vs Spy tropical Directive!"

Yes, that is it. Thanks. Other than the title screen, most of the game is in English.
