Better late then never.
Now for Castlevania 2?
I finally beat the first Mega Man a few weeks ago, so congratulations on finally conquering a game that gave you a ton of problems. Virtual high five!

I tend to find Dracula easier than Death in most games in the series. A notable exception is Castlevania: Dracula X. What smart ass decided to stage the Drac fight on a bunch of uneven pillars?
Castlevania is a thorn in my side, as I, too, have owned it for over 20 years without beating it. One day, though... One day...

The only Castlevania I have yet to beat is Simon's Quest. But the first CV is a tricky one.
It took me almost 5 years to beat the Xbox version of Ninja Gaiden, because that final boss is a total BITCH. And as I said once before, It was quite a satisfying experience - like getting 100,000 achievent points, all at once.
The thorn in my side would be the original Phantasy Star. I've owned the SMS version for 20 years now, and I still haven't beaten it. Of course, my cart is now useless with a dead battery, and I don't own any recent PS compilation that includes the original (so here's hoping the original shows up on XBL or PSN..). So I'm sure It'll be another 20 before I get around to beating it.
Congrats! I've got a save right before Dracula in Castlevania Chronicles. I've tried dozens of times but I've never beaten him.
Actually, I've bought and played at least half a dozen Castlevania games since the NES, but I've never finished a single one. I don't know what it is about that series, but I always seem to quit playing halfway through.
If you can't do it with 8 bits, you don't need to do it!
Congrats! I've got a bad habit of playing games some odd fraction of the way through then letting them collect dust. Well done beating a difficult game!

I think you should move on to another Castlevania game (if you haven't already). I noticed that there were a few games that I picked up years later and did better than I did when I was younger.

A friend of mine had the original on his SMS, but I never played it enough to beat until I got Phantasy Star Collection on the GBA. I made it through and finished, and had a great gaming moment:
I was at the laundromat, playing PS while waiting for my clothes. I was in one of the earlier dungeons that had holes that would drop you down a level. I had saved inside the dungeon at a point I *thought* was safe. However, I quickly ran low on both health and supplies, and I was completely lost - with no internet to search for maps . After wandering a while desperately trying to find the way out, I realized I had a pocket planner and pen with me. So I started mapping it out right there, all the while running from encounter after encounter. Finally, with literally 2 hit points left I found the exit and escaped. One more encounter and I would have lost an hour of play. I think that gave me momentum to finish.

You forgot to put the Konami code in right at the end to get the special surprise ending!! You'd better go play it all over again!!
