Pretty interesting subject you're researching. It would be neat to have a comprehensive list of these.

I'm pretty sure that Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, Chrono Cross, and Star Ocean: The Second Story all had multiple icons. I can try to confirm later if you want and see if I discover some others across all my cards.

I'd venture to guess that Lunar 2 would too.

I seem to remember that all the Resident Evils had multiple save icons depending on who you played with, if you beat it and for the game you unlock after you beat it. I'll check for more when I get home.

    *edit* Not sure about surviver.

Final Fantasy Tactics has multiple save icons. I believe it works the same way as FFVII and Legend of Dragoon.

Okay, I confirmed the ones I mentioned before. Lunar and Chrono Cross have different members of the party a la FFVII, while Star Ocean 2 has different little animations with the bunny.

Final Fantasy VIII is also like VII, and even though I could only find one file of FFIX, it looks like it's the same. I'm sure everyone and their brother can confirm these ones.

And it looks like Shadow Tower has different monsters, as long as I'm not confusing "ST Monster World" something or other with some other game, but I can't frankly think of any other PlayStation game we'd have files in that would have a label like that.

Some games have different save icons depending on what "part" of the game it is:

Saga Frontier - icon depends on which character's story it is
    Threads of Fate - ditto
Front Mission 3 - icon depends on which "branch" of the story you've chosen
Saga Frontier 2 - icon depends on which "generation" you're currently on (not positive about this one)
Um Jammer Lammy - different icons for the normal game, Rammy mode, and Parappa mode, and for saved replays (I think)
I think Final Fantasy Tactics changes based on which chapter you're in, but I'm not sure.

Also some games have a different icon for a "system save" separate from your regular progress save, like Syphon Filter 2.

    Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus

It's funny, because I got the game a few weeks back and I just had a chance to play it a couple of nights ago. I thought it was cool that you could choose your save icon.

Then this topic came along! Go figure!

Holy crap...this is going to be a lot more "fun" than I thought. Keep up the great work everyone.

On the funny side - EA is SUPER LAZY. Both 007 World is Not Enough and 007 Tomorrow never dies use the same save icon.

So is Castlevania: SotN the only one that randomly changes so far? It would be pretty funny if it was the only game in the whole US library that randomly changes its icon.

Actually, I think there might be some randomness to the Star Ocean 2 icons, but I'm not sure if an individual file can change once it's first formed. I've just noticed that it doesn't seem to be systematic like with the Final Fantasy games, Chrono Cross, Lunar, etc. where the second file will use the next icon, the third the next after that, and so on. It seems like on the same card, multiple Star Ocean icons can have the same animation, so I suspect that there must be some percentage determining how likely you are to get each animation (since it doesn't seem completely balanced). Seems like it stays the same through the course of the game, but I'm not sure.

Suikoden II has a changing icon, sometimes it shows a save crystal and sometimes it shows Makumaku the squirrel.

Beyond the Beyond has two different ones too. One shows young Steiner's eye up close and the other shows young Steiner flying in the sky.

With these two games it seems kind of random, probably depending on where in the game you save.

King's Field games have different monsters for icons just like Shadow Tower.

Resident Evil 2 had different icons for who you were playing as.

Resident Evil 1 had a special icon for a infinite rocket launcher save.

I never got the infinite rocket launcher on 1 so all I have is the eye and never could play survivor more than once so I only have one save. RE2 has 3 that I can see and RE3 has 2.

First two are for the character you play and third is a save for the unlocked game.

First is for the main game and second is for the unlocked game.

One to add to the list Jason, is Breath Of Fire IV.
Although Ive only used 3 save slots, it appears there is a different picture/face for all 15 slots

Would Suikoden or Suikoden II possibley have different icons based on you having everyone, or clear data? I heard you can use data from one game on the next, so thats what got me thinking if the save icon changes or not.

Azure Dreams certainly does. Different save files have a different monster icon from the game representing them. Not sure how many variations there were... at least 3 if I remember correctly.

Possibly Harvest Moon: Back To Nature as well but am unsure.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this, considering it was just translated into english this year.
Add Policenauts to the list. I don't believe the icons change if file is overwritten, just different icons for the more save files.
