Hell yeh. I still play my ps2, and my kids 6 and 4 got them a slim. They love it perfect for their age. They love it. Keep on kickin for the young kids anyway.
I still, have my old PS2 fatty and it even works. It definitely had a long run even third partys continue to release games for it.Heck i'm still finding games for it that i miss out on it befor.
Unfortunately the day is most likely soon that the PlayStation 2 will cease manufacturing. I am using my fatty I got for 20 bucks at a thrift store 4 years ago right now. Pretty good price at the time. Laser lense just needed a good swab.

Wasn't a big PS1 fan and don't own a PS3, but I have to give credit to the PS2 for being the only system of the last generation worth buying.
And before anyone jumps on me for ripping the Xbox and Gamecube, the simple fact was that the exclusive titles for the PS2 were far better than both of the other two's exclusives. So, so many good games were available on the PS2.
Given the sales numbers and sheer number of great games, the PS2 has to be one of the greatest systems of all time, right up there with the NES, SNES, and Atari VCS.

It's okay, you can dare to be stupid
9 years old, and I still don't have one.
Unless you count my backwards compatible PS3...
It's approaching 10 years if you go by the Japanese release date, just 4 months or so away.
I didn't get my PS2 until very early 2001, and even by that time not a lot of people in my area had one. I remember I got a call from Babbages about 7pm one evening telling me they had one available (I had reserved one several months prior). I drove nearly 20 miles to pick it up. The whole time I was in there a group of guys were eyeing me and the PS2. The manager actually offered to walk me out to my car...
I was fortunate enough to pre-order a system very early and was able to pick up mine at Stop-N-Save at launch without hassle. I was quite disappointed with the early software lineup, coming from the DC launch. I ended up flipping my system for extra money shortly after release and picking up another system later after a year or so and there was a stream of good titles coming out.
I was also disappointed in the early titles, and miffed about the hype killing off my beloved DC's lifespan. After a year, however I couldn't resist. My PS2 (purchased in summer of 2001, the Gran Turismo 3 pack) is the only system I've owned since that time period that has been always hooked up. Every other system has had its time "in the bin" but not PS2.
Lately it doesn't care so much for cd-rom games, but if I reset it enough it'll get the idea. Ah, my PS2 fatty. That'll do pig, that'll do.
Good stuff and been thru 4 of them, got my current launch slim and one for backup the silver slim, my 703 PS2 games I own:-). Nine years ago was sitting outside of EB Games waiting for the fanastic masterpiece to arrive:-).
Proud owner of a PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PSP and 3DS
I have 5 ps2s right now, and 1,198 games. + not enough time in the world to play them all.
After taking my parents to the airport for an early flight, I waited at a BestBuy on a whim. I was #95 out of 96. I didnt get to open it for 2 months as it was a gift from my g/f.
I also bought a memcard, Saitek DVD remote (w/ Play & Stop buttons reversed), X-Squad, & TimeSplitters.
Only conked out once, & I got a slim to fill the space while Sony fixed the old girl. She's been chugging along fine ever since. Clearly the best system I've ever owned. I'll never part w/ it.
