    Default Laseractive LD-ROM (Turbografx) module

Just got one of these. Thanks Chad Tower!!!!

Now I'm looking at my sad collection of 6 TG-16 hucards. So I have a couple questions.

First, about what the LD-ROM module plays. The Laseractive list says that it plays "Turbografx-16 HUcards, TurboDuo CD’s (as well as import PC Engine CDs), CD+G discs, and LD-ROM2 games."

Turbografx-16 Hucards: I know what these are, but will it also play PC Engine Hucards (and hu came up with that name anyway?)
TurboDuo CD’s: These are the CDs listed at the end of the TG-16 section, right?
PC Engine CDs: Is there a list of these?
Also, what about the "Super CDs" that it mentions in the manual? What are those?

Second (yeah, that first "question" was long...) is there any reason to keep my TG-16 console now?

Third, where can I get these games (aside from the obvious: trades and eBay)?

Thanks. I'm looking forward to exploring new realms of gaming bliss!

Wow, I would love one of those. I too am interested in finding out whether the Laseractive can play PC engine games/PC Engine CD ROMs.

first off: www.videogameimports.com has quick and painless FAQ on the various PCE/TG16 variations here:

    http://www.videogameimports.com/pcengine.htm

www.videogameimports.com also has hundreds of PCE and CD titles in stock.

    www.mcvans.com
    www.4jays.com
    www.collectorscardsandgames.com
    www.videogamedepot.com
    www.ravengames.co.uk
are some other places where I have gotten TG16 and PCE CD games.

The module will not play PC Engine HU cards without an adaptor and most adaptors won't fit. It will play TGCDs, TG SCDS, and all Japanese equivalents that will play on a TurboDuo. I don't know if it will play CDR games, never tried. It will play TG LDROMs, laserdiscs that require that module and are only playable via that module and the LA.

An SCD is a TG CD that requires the CD system 3.0 card. The TGCD commonly has 2.0, which works with regular TGCDs.

It really is a great item, very unique. I hope you enjoy it. They're hard to find in the condition that one is in... that thing has a total of about 5 minutes use on it.

I think your questions have already been answered, but I'm bored.

    Not without an adapter.

(and hu came up with that name anyway?)
    Probably HUdson.

TurboDuo CD’s: These are the CDs listed at the end of the TG-16 section, right?
    Right!

PC Engine CDs: Is there a list of these?
Right on our FAQ page. Here's a quick shortcut: http://joyce.eng.yale.edu/~bt/turbo/...mplete.catalog

Also, what about the "Super CDs" that it mentions in the manual? What are those?
To you, the LaserActive owner, it doesn't mean anything as far as compatibility goes. The LA can play all of the types except for Arcade Card games. CD and SCD refer to the level of system card you needed with your TG-16/Duo/PCE system. More on this in the DP Guide.

Second (yeah, that first "question" was long...) is there any reason to keep my TG-16 console now?
I've still got mine but haven't had to use it for any reason since acquiring a LaserActive. Congrats!

Third, where can I get these games (aside from the obvious: trades and eBay)?
Have you tried Telegames or Turbo Zone Direct?

Thanks. I'm looking forward to exploring new realms of gaming bliss!
Have fun with it! You're gonna love the world of TG16/Duo/PCE!

Thanks everyone. What I'm getting here is that my module is the same as a Turbo Duo (which is the same as a TurboGrafx w/ Turbo CD and Super System Card) except that it can also play the LD games made for it. I wasn't aware that PC Engine hucards were different. Now I know (and knowing is... oh nevermind).

Ah. So does that mean it's pronounced "huh-card" and not "who-card", as I have been pronouncing it? (not that I get a lot of opportunities to use the word in actual conversation)

Well, I'm off to check out some of those stores. Either that or get back to work. Hmmm....

Yeah, IIRC, the PCE hu card has two of the pins inverted when compared with the US pinout, very similar to a patch cable vs a crossover cable.

you know, I've always pronounced it "hyu-card" as in Hyuga (or hyou, I can't describe it any better than that :/ )

I don't know that I've ever even tried to say it out loud, even when I was exclusively a tg collector for all those years.
