Default Sold brand new psone and buyer says it's not working

    Hello

I sold a brand new and sealed ps one with lcd screen on e-bay. After about a month of selling it, the buyer has e-mailed me saying he opened it to play it and the screen has no backlight. What should I do in this case? I sold the item as a collectors item since it's sealed and there is no way of me testing it. The auction went for $112 since it was sealed. Now that he opened the psone and used it, even if I get it fixed, it's almost worthless.

New items aren't covered by any warranty if they're out of date. You really shouldn't have to give him anything. However, if he files a PP complaint, you're screwed. If it really was brand new/factory sealed (I don't know how the PSone screens are packaged -- is it obvious that it was new?) and he opened it, it's on him.

I'd try to string him along until the 45 day waiting period ends and then tell him sorry. He can't file a complaint after 45 days pass. Although you might have an outside chance of winning, since he opened the item and it was new...you're not the manufacturer, so it's not your fault.

It was obvious that it was new. It even had the sony sticker on the box intact. I'm waiting on a response from him. I basically told him that it was sold as is because it was brand new and I couldn't open it to test it. Who pays over $100 bux for a collectors item so he can open and use it anyway?

If my math is correct, it has now been over 45 days, and he can not file a claim. Any new news?

He still has time to do still do a credit card chargeback and/or leave bad feedback.

Yea, I guess he could still file a CC claim, however wouldn't that affect PayPal, who would have to file a claim who could still potentially decide in your favor.

I recently had a Not as Described claim filed against one of my items. PayPal decided in my favor. The buyer then decided to file a charge back through their CC company. PayPal also disputed that for me. They lost the dispute, but still had to give me my money because they had decided in my favor, and I had seller protection.

The only loser in this story: PayPal!
