It has 2 composite inputs so it cycles through AV1 and AV2. No way to get rid of it on some of the screens.

    That doesn't really bug me.

As far as the resolution, I don't think it's EXACTLY like the original Nomad screen.

The far more annoying issue is with games that blank the screen or something instead of blacking it, which causes that AV1/AV2/bluescreen to keep showing itself during level skips, deaths, etc.

I'd say the annoyances are still far outweighed by the positives though. The replacement LCD is an incredible leap in clarity and quality.

Hmm I imagine there is a solder point to disable the second input.

No there is really no way to get a new Lcd in a Gamegear.

Yes there is a way to get Rgb out of a GG, and yes there is a way to convert it to Composite. But there is really no easy way to get all of that and a new 3.5" Lcd in a Gamegear. I have my doubts that a new 3.5" Lcd would fit by itself in a GG.

That really sucks because I would die to have a new LCD screen in my Game Gear. Jonjandran, have you ever done a cap replacement on a Game Gear? Seems that is really the problem with the video quality on these things. I guess all of the game gears have degraded over time.

I've never had that issue with mine. What game were you playing when that happened? Maybe I should try it and see what happens.

Thank you for the images on how to do this. I just spent the morning modding and the afternoon playing. It turned out great! Playing Pier Solar on it. I don't know how people play games on the old screen. It is so bad, this one is beautiful!

The only addition I will add is keep a red sharpie on stand by. When it comes to aligning the screen, leave the protector plastic on the screen so you can draw margins on it with the sharpie where the screen actually displays the game. It has a small bar all the way around it, and if you don't line it up perfectly before the hot glue you are going to end up doing it over until you get it aligned.

Had I thought about this or seen this thread three weeks ago, I would still have my Nomad.

    Great work!

Actually I do it a bit differently. I hook everything up. Then I put hot glue on two corners of the screen. Quickly before the glue dries I turn on the system and line the screen up. Glue dries and I glue the other two corners. Perfect screen every time.

jonjandran - if you're going to do some more of these mods, please let us know.

I'd be interested in having it done.

    Anyone else?

just finished mine up and it looks amazing. Big Thanks jonjandran for the info...
I used a slightly different screen. Its the one that comes with a sunction cup mount that screws into the back of the screen. it also has one video input and an on off switch on its side.i removed the switch and just jumpered it.also with this one i was able to just glue in its front plastic bezel into the nomad, then the screen circuit board uses 3 screws to hold it in place instead of glue.

Nice, do you have any pictures of this different screen that you used? During the mod, or any pictures of the screen after the mod?
