    Default Sonic NFR?

Found and bought it for $4 at a flea market.

I saw someone else have something similar but I did not bother buying it.

    How rare/uncommon are these?

Can anyone give me an estimate of price on it?

These carts are common as DIRT.

    $1-2 at best.

This is the extremely common pack-in version. It sold the Genesis like hotcakes to people who saw how awesome Sonic was and just had to have it. Seriously, Sega's sales overtook Nintendo's when this game was included with the Genesis. So yeah, it's actually far more common to find an NFR version of this game than the regular retail version (but both are very common).

Actualy, I believe the NFR version is worth even less then the retail version of Sonic 1 and 2. The game was a system seller to an extreme. It's definitly the combat of the genesis. It's not a bad game so if you bought it cause you wanted it to play, it doesnt matter what you paid. If you got it to re-sell, perhaps I could interest you in a couple 2600 carts of pac-man. Give you a great deal at 5 each!

While not difficult to find, it is a little harder to track down copies of the non nfr versions from my experience

I'll agree with that, I've only seen 1 Sonic 1 Retail version and no Sonic 2 retail versions in the wild so far.

That's odd... my Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 are both retail versions. I guess that incident where I saw two NFR copies of Sonic 2 in the same lot at Goodwill makes sense then :P

It's much harder for me to find retail versions of Sonic 1 or 2 compared to the pack-in versions, I'm not sure if I actually have a retail version of Sonic 1. I think I have one retail copy of Sonic 2, and a handful of the pack-in version. There were actually a few different versions of Sonic 1, I have a pack-in version with different label art that just has an added sticker saying it's not for resale.

In any case, I wouldn't pick up loose copies unless they were cheap or bundled with other games. But whenever I have extra copies I just list them on the classifieds for $5 each, eventually someone seems to want them.
