    Ah Kega.

But Gens is pretty good too, right?

In my more wild, criminal days of using emulators, I always prefered Gens. In my opinion, it's the best out there. KEGA is pretty good, too, but Gens is the best.

I seem to remember a program called Genecyst as well. I'd stay away from that one, but to be honest, I don't remember why.

Genecyst was good for its time, it's just outdated.

I greatly prefer Kega Fusion - bombman posted a link to it above. It's easy to use, straightforward, and it has support for render plugins, which offer things like hq2/3/4x and scale2/3/4x.

I have Gens as well, but I never actually bothered trying it until just now - it seems usable, but I'm not seeing any compelling reason to choose it over Kega. The render options seem limited to 2xSai, scanlines and interpolation, which to my mind seems somewhat dated. There's also this weird effect when I open and close the program where it makes my whole screen go black for a second or two, even though the program itself only occupies this tiny little default window.

When I tried checking out their website to get the latest version, it looks like they haven't updated their Windows binaries in 4, almost 5 years. There's source code for newer versions, and Linux binaries, but none for Windows. And even those haven't been updated in a year. Kega was updated last month.

    Go with Kega.

I'd suggest going with Kega Fusion, although Gens isn't bad at all. You should be fine with either one

Fusion 3.5.1 by Steve Snake (same as the others) is the one you want. Has been the latest version for some time now.

I like the sound better in Kega, and I'm pretty sure it's the only one that supports Virtua Racing and Sega CD savestates.

It's worth noting that Steve Snake, the designer of Kega Fusion, was selected by Sega to develop their PC game emulations (Sega Smash Pack). Not only does that attest to the quality of his software, but I imagine he was able to improve his design based on any input from Sega themselves.
