I've been out of this loop for a while, but I remember problems on the 3000 with the screen or something, has this been addressed? Or is the 2000 still the preferred model for this stuff?

PSP 3000 is not fully hacked yet. So 2000 is still preferred choice.
.:Collection Pics:.
I figured that was the case, just wanted to make sure. Kinda shocked The 3000 still hasn't been completely broken though, but it is what it is.
Thanks for the quick response.
psp 2000. but i think the new psp 2000 models are same as 3000 in that you cant fully hack it (you pretty much run a hack every time you reboot to boot into custom firmware).
so if you can find an older or used psp 2000, go that way.
It's been a while since I looked at PSP mods...can the 2000 run the 1.5 kernel yet? I thought there was app that let you run it but I'm not sure.
Personally, I prefer the 1000 because of the 1.5 kernel. MAME4ALL, Atari Lynx, and the Neo Geo (I think) still use it and can't be played on the 2000 or 3000 as far as I know. Think there might be a few more emulators that require 1.5 but these are the ones I use the most.
psp2000 will never run true 1.5 since the hardware is a bit diff (i think its part of the video, not sure).
as far as i know, all emulators have been more than updated after 1.5
i have run all emulators on my vader psp 2000 without any problems.
Even Lynx and MAME? I know most emulators have been updated past 1.5 but I've never seen any for these two. It's the only reason I'm still holding onto my 1001.
BTW, wasn't there something called 'time machine' for 2000's that let you run 1.5 homebrew? Or was that something completely different?
Time Machine did also, but I didn't think it worked past a certain firmware. 4.00? Not sure.
However, there was LEDA Legacy Software Loader. This stays as a .prx file and only activates in the background when something that requires an older firmware is loaded. It doesn't have full compatibility, but it does have compatibility with most 1.5 programs according to Dark Alex.
Grabbed a couple used 2000s tonight, one seems to already be modded as it's running Chinatown Wars from the memory stick... :P. Not that I needed two, but the whole package seemed like a good deal.
Thanks for the info guys.

Thanks for indulging my gaming habit when I was young, Dad. You were the best. I miss you. ~David Barnes 1926-2007~
Gen-a is definatley a homebrew psp. No chance at all he purchased GTA. If it has and letters after the 5.50 or whatever it is running it is Custom Firmware.
Not that I could do any better, but I'm not a fan of the GEN firmware. There are a lot of incompatibilities with PSX eboot files freezing up. I'm not going to leave 5.00m33-5 until Dark Alex releases another.
Doesn't matter though. Yoshihiro released a program which allows you to patch a game to play. So even though I can't play any games that are over 5.00m33, I can still rip them and then patch them to play on lower firmware. Hopefully there's a patch that allows you to play any game without upgrading, but I doubt it'll happen.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.
