A DS or PSP version would be nice, too.

The resolution difference would change the experience. I know this sounds nit-picky, but the Wii offers the closest thing to NES video output. Handhelds are different resolutions, and you lose the option to output to an analog display (not counting the lackluster FuSa plugin for PSP). My PS3 and 360 aren't set up to output analog, while the Wii outputs nothing but analog.

I don't see how running it on a DS would be any less authentic than playing it on a wii hooked up to a widescreen LCD tv like I have my system hooked up to. Games like these are perfect for when I'm on the train to work.

I'm not saying I don't WANT it on a handheld, just that it means a lot to me to have the authentic experience available.

Kinda wish they focused on transition from MM to X, seeing we're at the tenth installment.

Do you think Inafune or Capcom will ever come around to filling in the blanks and put the story to bed?

I think they could probably stop doing that now. Not that the novelty wasn't amusing for Mega Man 9 but the whole "bad artwork" thing stopped after Mega Man 2. I'd rather they match the art style of 4, 5, and 6 at this point.

I just saw the artwork for Mega Man 10. I don't think it's bad or cheesy at all. I really like it.

If they don't, I'm seriously considering organizing a fan project to do it. The series really needs a definite beginning and ending.

It's pretty obvious that Mega Man dies somewhere between the two series, so I'm not sure if Capcom is ready to show the death of Mega Man. Even if they do, there's nothing stopping them from doing these side stories in the original timeline.

Yeah, it's actually well composed. "Inappropriate" is probably better description than "bad." A lot of the examples of bad box art involve ridiculous proportions, laughable action poses, and various other flaws not present here.

The resolution of a DS screen is not as large as the resolution that the NES output, meaning you either have to chop a portion of the screen off (like Master System to Game Gear ports) or squish it down with artificial filters. Doesn't sound too authentic to me.

PSP on the other hand would be swell.

Proto Man's "design" is kinda growing on my though.

I guess this guy has to change his fan game's name by now:

It isn't a NES game, it's a WiiWare game running at 480i/480p. The DS screen offers a resolution of 256 x 192 pixels (Which indicates a 4:3 screen ratio if it uses square pixels). I see no reason why it couldn't be done justice at full screen, even if the resolution wasn't as high as we'd prefer.

Despite what many people wanted at this forum, despite myself and others indicating how impractical it was, this wasn't developed on old NES development kits and then ran through emulators on these modern consoles. It's a modern game developed using modern methods that just takes it's gameplay and graphical inspiration from the old NES classics.

Good point. A cartoony Mega Man cover would be more appropriate, but I still like the style of this new cover. The hand-painted artwork is a refreshing change of pace from all of the generic Photoshop collages of recent years.

Am I the only one that remembers the 8-bit bonus game from ZX Advent?

    http://www.themmnetwork.com/2009/12/...-commando-man/

Commando Man, and an ice themed robot master and apparently sports and computer themed robot masters as well described here.

Funny, Commando Man doesnt look much like Super Joe. Maybe there will be a hidden nod to the old Capcom game in there somewhere..

Ice themed? For the character's name that doesn't make much sense.

I would think that a character called Commando Man would simply lack underwear.

Seriously, though -- Commando Man should have long extending arms (a la Bionic Commando) or be able to shoot missiles or something. "Ice" is not where my mind goes when I think "Commando."

You misinterpreted my post, I meant that there will be an ice themed robot master apparently, as well as a computer themed one based on the stages described in the article.

Commando Man's attacks are listed in the article as well, and his stage will be desert themed.

Okay...that makes a hell of a lot more sense. I still wish he was a robot who didn't wear underwear or something like that, but a desert theme works a lot better for the character's name.
