Default The Simpsons arcade game comes to the iPhone

It looks like a remix of the original Konami arcade game with improved graphics. Unfortunately, it's only one player (and the only character playable is Homer)

    But still probably worth $5..

It's NOT A REMIX! It has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ARCADE GAME!

EA is releasing this with this name to trick fans of the original Konami game into buying it. Sneaky bastards.

Nice bait and switch there, EA. Now go to your room and don't come back until you've got the rights to the REAL arcade game.

Yeah, I would love to see an update/remake of the classic Simpsons arcade game...

Gillian: To look at videos on YouTube...
Mika: *sigh* No more videos of a drunk Harry dancing with a dead Snatcher...
Giliian: Nope, it's better...Its LiquidPolicenauts YouTube Videos!

The title on the thread got me excited, then heard it's not the same game, WHAT CRAP! Maybe the real one will be made available on XBLN or a real portable game system, like the PSP or ds

Konami's decision to never market the Simpsons Arcade on home systems always baffled me. I mean, it's STILL one of the highest-earning arcade games in existence- why no home port? The Genny and SNES could've handled it with flying colors (admittedly, it'd probably be better on SNES, but still...).
I'm sure it had something to do with not wanting to pay licensing fees or whatnot, but still... c'mon Konami.

It was probably because Konami had the rights to the arcade release, but Acclaim had the rights to the property on consoles. The same thing happened to Konami with the Aliens franchise. several other companies (Activision, Capcom, Arena) had the rights to it on consoles, so no home port of the Aliens arcade game.

Yeah, that's pretty much the sole reason why the game didn't get a home port.

Why it doesn't have one now is probably because others still own the rights, and Konami might not want to pay any licensing fees for such an old game.

The game still really deserves more than a shitty DOS port though.

It really wouldn't surprise me, considering that it is the one older arcade game (aside from Pac-Man) that I still frequently see in pizza restaurants, bowling alleys, and movie theaters.

I play it all the time. There's one in my town's bowling alley. I even beat the game there AND in MAME! Still, someone with SNES coding skill could port this to the SNES. It'd be cool to load that up on a Powerpak.

It did get computer ports however:

My friend had it on the PC and IIRC it wasn't too shabby.

After reading the quote below I thought the same thing. After doing a little googling, and reading some forums here and there, it doesn't seem like any accurate records were ever kept. The only thing I know is that Pac-man, Defender, and the Daytona games earned a shit ton of money.

It'd be nice to see some data on top earning games, but it doesn't seem like there is any concrete info.

Also isn't the title of this thread now misleading?
