Default is there a list of all released nintendo consoles?

This thread started out as a request for a list which doesnt seem to exist, so we've started making one.. Here's what I've got so far, made as more of a checklist, A Black Falcon has made a timeline version which you can see a bit further down

My definition of a console is a publicly sold system which has removable games and did not include an alphabetical keyboard in the box with the console.

Hotel units, store displays, and prototypes do not count for this.

If you've got any suggestions yell out

Also if you know how to increase the horizontal width of the code box, that'd be handy to know too.

Ps. my original first post was a request for a list of all nintendo consoles, which is why the replies dont suit..

What do you mean by "all consoles"? Like Famicom, Nintendo, Super Famicom, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, GameCube, Wii? And then the Gameboy line of GameBoy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Pocket, etc...

Or are you looking for a list of every system like all the odd stuff that was released like the Pokomon N64, all the odd multi cart hotel systems, all the hotel systems with NES built into the TV? All the variations of each and every system for each and every region could be quite a large collection.

I bet we could make a list in this thread. Keep adding to the (very basic) list I have started.
Condoleezza Rice is nice, but I prefer A Roni!

Well, a very basic list would be:

    Console:
    Nes
    Snes
    N64
    Gamecube
    Wii

    Handheld:
    Game & Watch series
    Virtual Boy
    Gameboy
    Gameboy Pocket
    Gameboy Light
    Gameboy Play it Loud!
    Gameboy Colour
    Gameboy Advance
    Gameboy SP
    Gameboy Micro
    Nintendo DS
    Nintendo DS Lite
    Nintendo DSi
    Nintendo DS LL

And then if you include special editions, colour variations, add ons etc the list grows exponentially.
I reject your reality and substitute it for one of my own!

Be careful.....you may be biting off a very big chunk here!!
I collect only 72-pin NES consoles from around the world, and I have over forty so far. The number of consoles available worldwide is unbelievable, since most are unliscensed and/or pirates. Even if you say something like "no pirates", then you still have variations and oddities (liscensed) that can play Nintendo carts/cds .
You are really gonna have to define your search.....or be prepared for one helluva an education. Good Luck!

Alright, I made a list... what's missing from this?

Not counting system color changes/special edition colors, just actual new models. Not counting motherboard/internal revisions within one case model. Modems and such don't count, just things that actually have games on them. Not listing accessories, even if games require them (namely the Power Pad, DK Bongos, N64 DDR Pad (Japan only), GC DDR Pad, GC Microphone, Wii Balance Board, and Wii Motion Plus). No pirate systems.

An asterisk (*) marks systems which are not videogame consoles/handhelds because they do not have interchangeable games, but are on the list anyway because they are videogames of some kind.

    1974
Magnavox Odyssey - Japan (distribution only)

    1975
    *First Nintendo arcade game

    1977
*Nintendo Color TV Game line (Nintendo's Home Pong clone) - Japan

    1980
*Game & Watch line starts - Japan, later US, Europe as well

    1983
Nintendo Family Computer (aka Famicom) (Japanese NES) - Japan

    1984
    Famicom Basic Keyboard (Famicom addon)
Famicom Data Recorder (addon for Famicom Basic Keyboard) - Japan)

    1985
    NES - US (test marketing)

    1986
NES - Canada, PAL-B (France, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, West Germany) (also wide US release is this year)
Famicom Disk System (Famicom addon) - Japan
Sharp Twin Famicom (licensed clone Famicom plus Disk System) - Japan
Nintendo PlayChoice - US (arcade version of the NES which uses special plug-in PCB versions of NES games)

198? (mid '80s releases but specific year for each one unknown)
*NES Demo Station (can perhaps switch chips on the circuit board to change games, but other than that it's preset)
NES M82 Demo Unit (NES demo system which can hold 15 games with a time limiter. Uses normal NES carts, plays on a TV.)

19?? (probably mid to late '80s, perhaps early '90s? I have no idea)
Hyundai Comboy - South Korea (South Korean version of the Famicom/NES, uses NES-shaped system and carts)

    1987
NES - PAL-A (UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Italy) (note -- PAL-A and PAL-B NES games and systems are incompatible. Non-copy protected systems such as the NES 2 should be able to play both types though.)

    1989
    Game Boy - US, Japan

    1990
Super Famicom (Super NES) - Japan

    1991
    Super Nintendo - US
Nintendo Super System - US (arcade version of the SNES which plays special plug-in PCB versions of certain SNES games)

    199? (unknown year in early/mid '90s)
Hyundai Super Comboy - South Korea (South Korean version of the Super Famicom, uses Super Famicom system and cart shapes)

    1992
    Super Nintendo - Europe/PAL

    1993
AV Family Computer (redesigned Famicom) - Japan
NES 2 (redesigned NES) - US (these two systems have very similar designs, but do have shape and output differences so they are not the same -- the AV Famicom doesn't have the bump over the cart port and uses the standard SNES/N64/GC Nintendo AV output jack and the Famicom addon port, while the NES 2 is RF output only and has the bump and no Famicom addon port of course.)

    1994
Super Game Boy (play Game Boy games on a Super Nintendo) - Japan, US, Europe

    1995
    Virtual Boy - US, Japan
Satellaview (Super Famicom addon) - Japan

    199?
Nintendo Power cartridge for Game Boy - Japan (rewritable flash memory carridge that you could get games written on to at stores or direct via Nintendo. Rewrite service ran until 2007. I can't find the release year, but it's most likely somewhere between 1995 and 1997.)
Nintendo Power cartridge for Super Famicom - Japan (same as above but for the SFC. The two came out at the same time.)

    1996
Game Boy Pocket (redesigned Game Boy) - Japan, US, Europe
    Nintendo 64 - Japan, US

    1997
    Nintendo 64 - Europe
Super Famicom Jr. (redesigned Super Famicom) - Japan
SNES 2 (recolored Super Famicom Jr.) - US (apart from the color, these two are the same.)

    1998
    Game Boy Light - Japan
Super Game Boy 2 (redesigned Super Game Boy with Link Cable port added and with a special background in Tetris DX) - Japan
Game Boy Color - Japan, US, Europe

    Nintendo 64DD (Nintendo 64 addon) - Japan

    2001
Game Boy Advance - Japan, US, Europe
    Gamecube - Japan, US
    Card-E Reader (Nintendo e-Reader)
Panasonic Q (licensed Gamecube with DVD playback) - Japan
Pokemon Mini (handheld) - US, Japan

    2002
    Gamecube - Europe
    Pokemon Mini - Europe

    2003
E-Reader (Game Boy Advance addon) - Japan, US
Game Boy Advance SP (redesigned Game Boy Advance) - Japan, US, Europe/PAL
Game Boy Player (Gamecube addon that plays Game Boy, GBC, and GBA games) - Japan, US, Europe
iQue Player - China (digital-download-only system that plays N64 games)

    2004
    Nintendo DS - Japan, US

    Default nes consoles

A simple "off the top of my head" NES addition:

    NES M82 player
    NES/snes test unit
    Korean Comboy (original liscensed)
    Secam France unit
    NES cutout console test unit
    Sachen 72-pin console
Europe has 1/2 dozen vintage clones
Brazil has more than that (the mini NES is so cool)

There is more....and none of this is Famicom

There are so many things that play NES.....you will really have to cull your defintion of "machine" to get a list to fit your search.

Unreleased test systems and unlicensed clones really don't count in a list like this though, they're something different... and as for the French SECAM unit I'd think that would be included in PAL-B, because that's where Nintendo put it. To Nintendo SECAM wasn't separate from PAL-B.

The official Asian and Hong Kong releases of the NES and other systems could be added to my list, though... oh, and I forgot the iQue line.

Things like listing all of Nintendo's Game & Watch, Color TV Game, and Arcade releases separately instead of just listing the first year for each would probably be overdoing it, but at least listing all the years titles in those lines were released in would be nice, though for the Game & Watch and arcade lines that'd take a little while. The Nintendo Versus System (arcade version of the NES with special versions of games for it) could also be included separately from the rest of their arcade stuff perhaps, it was different from the rest of their arcade lineup for sure... same for the similar SNES arcade system that had only a couple of games. The PlayChoice-10 could perhaps be listed as well.

Oh, and the M82 probably could be listed, yeah. That appears to be official, and just because it was used for demo stations only doesn't mean it shouldn't be on the list.

Playchoice doesn't play NES carts....just NES games on another style cart.
The test system and the cutout consoles were liscensed and used in the USA and Europe....and both play NES carts.
M82 is a glorified NES unit (liscensed).
My point was only to illuminate that the inventory of "consoles that play Nintendo carts" is huge. I even have a couple of units that are old handheld NES players (not the new clones) from around the world.
So I would assume that the other categories of Worldwide Nintendo items would also be huge and difficult to collect....without culling most of the oddities out. But I doubt anyone is searching for just the basics.
    There is a bunch.......

I would not consider a clone system to be a "released Nintendo console". It is a clone.

I know the PlayChoice doesn't play NES games... but it does use interchangeable circuit boards, so that should count for something.

I reckon I'll make my own database from the info here plus what I can find on the net
I do not count clones, and for now licensed products will be second priority.

Funnily enough I already have a playchoice 10, but I dont count that. my definition of a console is a video game system released in commercial stores or sold to the public online, and does not include an alphabetical keyboard with the base unit. otherwise it's a computer, which I wont collect. (an optional keyboard released later or as an extra does not make it a computer)

I dont think I'm taking on more than I expected, I've been collecting for eight years after all, a complete collection of anything shouldnt be able to be bought in a week.

I've compiled a list so far, theres been no tidying, so theyre not in any particular order..
Just realised I dont have anywhere to upload it to.. it's in xml format.
    any suggestions?

can anyone confirm without a doubt that the whole handheld line from gba to dsi was released under the iQue name?

also, at this stage I am excluding all addon consoles (satellaview, disk system etc.) and anything that was not sold to the public. (demo stations, arcade games etc.)
I'll probably get into the addon consoles eventually, but that will be a seperate list.

    A Black Falcon,
Your list is formatted a hell of alot better than mine, maybe we should work together a bit more closely:P

I've used www.drop.io for things like this. You don't need to register or anything like that, just choose a name for your drop and upload all the files you want.

can anyone confirm without a doubt that the whole handheld line from gba to dsi was released under the iQue name?

also, at this stage I am excluding all addon consoles (satellaview, disk system etc.) and anything that was not sold to the public. (demo stations, arcade games etc.)
I'll probably get into the addon consoles eventually, but that will be a seperate list.

    A Black Falcon,
Your list is formatted a hell of alot better than mine, maybe we should work together a bit more closely:P
I didn't just trust that the iQue GBA, GBA SP, DS, DS Lite, and DSi exist, I did search around the internet to find references to them on Nintendo sites... I had to to find which years they came out in.

If you want some further proof, though, how about the official iQue website with product line listing?

As for your list, how is it different from mine? In contents, I mean. Just removing the demo stations and addons? I'd say they definitely do count, with a note that they're addons as I did... I mean, there are games on every one of those addons that you can't play on the base system. That's enough for me to want to list it, anyway.

As far as formatting, I just do lists in plain text, in the browser window or in Notepad...

Mine's just more of a checklist I guess.. I have as headings:
License, Name, Media Type, Video Format, Country of Origin, Got (yes/no)

I've got 44 consoles in it so far I think.. I'm not at home at the moment.

I've got slightly different interests to you I think.. I didnt worry about the release year
