    Default MSX hardware and software

    Hi folks,

I'm thinking of selling all of my MSX stuff as I need the money, I just don't know how much I should ask for it though. Any help is appreciated. My main problem is that everything's in Japan, so shipping overseas would be expensive.

    Here's the list:

Panasonic MSX Turbo R FS-A1ST (boxed, no manual, new belt fitted)
    Panasonic Power Pad FS-JS222
Sony MSX2 HB-F1XDmk2 (boxed, no manual, new belt fitted)
Sony MSX2+ F1-XV (no box, no manual, new belt fitted)
Sony MSX2+ F1-XV (no box, no manual, belt works fine since buying it second-hand)

All of these games are boxed with manuals:
    Akumajou Dracula
    Gradius
    Gradius 2
    Hyper Olympic II
    Konami's Soccer
    Maison Ikkoku
    Parodius
    Space Manbow
    Twinbee

    Many thanks in advance.

EDIT: while I'm at it, here's some miscellaneous stuff:

    NEC PC-8801
    Super Mario Bros. Special (complete)

    NEC PC-9801
    Popful Mail (complete)

    like I mentioned

    • --Japanese MSX2's are worth roughly 50$
    • --the 2+s are worth anywhere between 50 and 80$. Possibly 100 if the things like MIB.
    • --the FSA1-ST depending on its condition, and the box is worth probably about 100-200$ depending on the condition.

i base this ST price off of the fact that a GT (twice as much ram, and midi) with box/manual/disks, goes for around 250-300$, possibly more if its very minty.

dont be fooled by western ebay prices where you see things like MSX1 or 2s priced at 300+$. Those are just gougers trying to profit off of MSX not being an NA released machine and passing them off as scarce items.. Anyone really in the know about importing Japanese hardware should be able to attest to that.

also, these machines are "worth" more in the European market since theyre seen as collectible items.....better, local machines serviced by a regular in the MSX scene go for 45 EUR, and are the ones most commonly used. so their "collectible" pricing is a matter of inflation. Their localized pricing shouldn't apply to everyone. especially savvy importers, and more especially to NA folk. Either way (youre in Japan yes?) we have to overseas ship so its no difference to us.

Id suggest checking yahoo.jp for a realistic estimate of their worth. Last I checked, 5000 - 8000 yen was the going rate on Sony models. often with buy it nows

or check a local shop and see what they offer for them!

as soon as you figure everything out let me know, as im interested in having a few more spare MSX's just in case I need parts!

    Don't hog it all, smellyheady!

No but seriously, I might be interested in one of the MSX's myself if I end up w/ the cash when you're ready to sell this stuff. (Shipping's probably going to double the price tho. XD)

i wont hog em all! I dont think i really need THAT many.

but yes, EMSing an MSX is alot, and boating it is slow. So you pay alot and get asap, or pay a little and wait for way too long!

we need warp tunnels to send stuff! instant transfer!

I paid about $60 to ship my MSX2 from Japan to the USA via EMS. It was $40 more than seamail, but the difference was substantial: I ordered it in late November and with EMS it got here around December 10th. I would have gotten it sometime in February or March had I chosen seamail.

I'm interested in another 2 or 2+ and possibly some of the games when you decide to sell these.

lol, well now that a few more are interested, I mainly want dibs on the ST, and an XV, but if others want the XVs, and dont already have one, I would gladly give up my dibs since I intended to buy the XVs as a backup incase mine ever dies on me.

Oh I don't care which one I get (if I can get one) since I don't know one model from the next. And I actually usually go w/ Seamail since I'm not usually in any hurry to get the console but... I dunno where I'm going to be living in a couple months. (I keep saying I'm going to buy a condo but so far no dice.)

well as far as MSX2s go, the Sony ones are pretty boss. The only thing better than the models mentioned Japanese wise, is the Sanyo Wavy PHC70FD.

or just buying a philips for 45 euros from the netherlandian hordes.

So basically you give a hilarious lowball price and then offer to buy? Cool story there.

My MSX 2+ F1-XDJ was like $150 (or more) before shipping from Neogeoman, and he didn't overprice stuff. That was some years ago too, prices on some things have been getting higher.

My advice would be to check Yahoo Auctions Japan.

Ed, your constant lack of MSX knowledge astonishes me. As does your need to act like a know it all when the need for it is not required.

I bought my boxed XDJ (remember? That one you said I never used in person?) off Yahoo auctions Japan , which you JUST recommended..and I recommended as well. Did you fully read my post, or gloss over it and hit the fail button like last time. It was 5500 Yen + shipping.

I bought my boxed XV ages ago, off Yahoo auctions Japan, for 7500 Yen + shipping and it came with 6 cartridge games: Circus Charlie, Pennant Race 1, Pennant Race 2, xevious, mr. do run run, and athletic land.

Given the current loot on yahoo.jp, its possible they have gone up 20$ or so in value which is why I gave MY estimates on prices based off of MY experiences with the market and with others...., and then suggested he check out local shops and yahoo auctions japan for a better estimate of the current msx pricing (again, try reading posts. It prevents you from doing what you just did). Its also entirely possible the current prices for the few sony's on yahoo.jp are due to someone gouging since there arent too many on there right now, or because they come with some extra stuff...(one comes with a tape deck).

The market for these fluctuates constantly depending how many are listed on yahoo.jp..... just 2 months ago there were like 15 HB-F1XD's up and a ton of Turbo-Rs. The XDs were all 30-45$.

also, the MSX2+'s in question are not boxed, and don't have the MSX-BASIC books with them either (as far as we know!)

Either way, you got ripped off for your XDJ.

Thanks for accusing me of scamming. That was cute.

EDIT: forgot to mention, that controller is 20-30$ Pick your favorite number in that range, I am guessing you'll go for 30$.

and as of right now there are a couple loose STs in the 20$ range w/ no BINs on Yahoo.jp. Lets see what they shoot up to by auction end.

Theres a MIB GT for 600 and a MIB ST for 300. Both from the same seller, possibly gouging them up a bit. The last batch of GTs I watched all went for <300$ and they came with extras and were CIB. One of which I was outbid on and it went for 255$

I'm sure Neogeoman would be most impressed at your assertion he overpriced his stuff. He had a $70 copy of Dracula X68000 - lots of other great hardware for low prices, and lots of games for many systems very cheaply, objectively. Not nearly as cheaply as An_Turtar's sold some of his games though.

I wouldn't be surprised if he raised his eyebrows at your estimation of MSX system values seeing - you've been doing this for how long? I bought my system probably back in 2002 or 2003. Maybe system prices are falling dramatically - I wouldn't know since I haven't needed to buy another system. Haven't needed to service it, either, and it's in the same shape it was when it was in the box.

so let me get this straight.

You're basing your price off of an 8 year old purchase, without being aware of the current market?

and then you make a petty jab at someone who *is* aware and involved in the current market and scene?...without properly investigating anything?

alrighty then. Glad we sorted that out.

I suppose back in 2002, the price of an XDJ would have sat around about what you paid as the whole import-market for MSX wasn't as accessible.

    Times have changed since then.

Game prices have gone up and system prices have gone down. My guess is that more Japanese users are unearthing their old machines, or finally parting with them.

Why don't we just let other users chime in. There's no need to argue over who's right since it's only going to go back and forth until someone else who knows something speaks up.

Or until some of the yahoo.jp ones end.

I've got my eyes on a few. If noone else speaks up I will be posting the prices at auction end.

One is a MSX2+ w/ books for 5000 yen buy it now. Currently listed at 3800 Yen
Another is an MSX2+ w/ FM PAC and DSlayer 6, 8950 BIN.

so, I guess we play the waiting game and see what happens with the non BINs

Isn't 5000 yen around $60 or so? If so, I think that pretty much backs up what you were saying, considering it's a BIN for that price. And after looking over this topic again quickly, that's pretty much what Tupin paid as well. So what were we arguing over again?

I paid $60 for shipping. The MSX itself was $120, but it came with 11 games. I wouldn't pay that much if it were just a bare MSX.

5000 yen, yes thats roughly 60$. It depends how lolfail the $ is at the moment.

shipping goes between 60-120$ usually if you throw it up on an airplane. Depends if its boxed or not really. Though as far as sending MSXs to myself, I can't do anything other than EMS anymore for impatience and paranoia. I don't trust boats!

Tupin, what model MSX did you get, out of curiousity?

Oh wait did you get that one off of RisingStuff with all the games?
swear we had this talk once before. maybe!

    EDIT:

One of em ended: 4600 yen. Boxed.
