True. I only play about 20 of these games. The only way I would sell is for the right price. Then I may just start all over agian. I had a blast collecting all of this stuff and met alot of great people along the way.

For my own personal refrence, could somebody please tell me how much this kind of collection is worth? All I see missing is the Panesians and SE. Also, how much would this kind of colletion be worth if all the games were loose? I'm sure we've got some experts here, I for one wouldn't even know where to begin.

As for the black galactic crusader I got for a friend. Sfsurvivor he was going to sell it to pa_nes_ian but pa_nes_ian emailed me a let me buy it instead. These two guys helped me out a lot with my collection. As for black Master Chu I made a trade on gameTZ.com for it.

Most of my games I got at game stop others from E-Bay. Sfsurvivor helped me out with a lot of the harder to find items. I'm very picky about my games 99% of my carts are excellent to mint. 95% of my boxes and manual are excellent to mint. I have made trades just to get better items.

as for extra games I have a few on hand.

Operation Secret Storm complete (manual not in best shape)
Trolls on Treasure Island complete (no doll)
Rainbow Island with box

I don't remember the rest off hand.

DL's collection went for around 19K when he sold his games on E-bay. He sold them one at a time. I'm not sure that I really want to spend the time he did on listing these games one by one. Also he had bubble bath babes, hot slots, peek a boo poker and Stadium events which I don't. The only games I have he may not have had was a couple of the CD games in both colors.

at first I got alot of games at gamestop. Then when I was almost done I started collecting boxes and manuals. I did alot of trading and rebuying of my games to get everything complete. Boxes and manuals were the hardest part of my collection. Gamestop throws all the boxes and manual away. >) which is very sad for any collector.

I agree totally -

If you don't care about the condition of the carts themselves, or if you aren't looking to get the boxes and manuals, putting together a set isn't that difficult.

In fact, you could probably get 700 or so relatively cheaply, and then pay a little more for the next 50, and the final 35 or so will cost you some bucks unless you get lucky.

If you are doing what some of us are doing (putting together a set of complete mint/near mint games) then that's a different ball game.

I have found myself even purchasing a complete (box, manual, cart, sleeve, and stryo) for a title I already had the cart for, just to get the box and manual.

Unless you get lucky and find someone who is selling a "lot" of boxes or manuals, typically you will have to buy them one at a time (and not at Gamestop.)

Here's an example. I found a decent loose cart of Panic Restaurant for $2.99. No book, no box. Since I couldn't get my hands on the manual or box, I had to bid for a complete one in MINT condition on eBay. With shipping, it cost me $25.50 - a far cry from the $2.99. Since I don't need two carts, I will sell the loose one and deduct the revenue from the sale from the cost of the complete game. It's a pain in the ass really.

Honestly, and I know it's possible, because I just received 140 NES boxes yesterday from a guy who wanted to sell them, look for deals on "lots" for the boxes and manuals.

Here's a pricing scenario. Would you pay $1.00 for a manual? Would you pay $2 or $2.50 for a box? If you say no - you will NEVER be able to complete a collection of boxed, complete games for the NES.

Some may disagree with me on this, but think about it. If you found a loose copy of The Adventures of Bayou Billy for $1.00 (cart and sleeve only), and then paid $1.00 for the book, and $2 or $2.50 for the box (with styro), your total cost would be $4 - $4.50. It would most likely cost $4 - $5 on ebay for a complete title, plus shipping costs.

My theory on this whole adventure is simple - if I can complete a title for $5.00 or less, it's a victory. If I can complete, on average, the entire collection for $10.00 (each) or less - I have done very, very well.

Call me crazy, but that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

My stance on collecting NES completely:

I did carts first, getting complete games when I could.. no big deal. Now I'm doing boxes and manuals, and now it's like I'm collecting NES all over again

AND without the benefit (except for my home store Funco) of Funcostops to fill out the collection.

I picked up a minty complete Super Off Road yesterday for $1 at a Salv. I needed the box. Now I have an extra cart and manual. Yay. I've paid as much as $3 per box and $2 per manual (both of those times I had my selection, so no doubles and EXACTLY what I needed, and everything was at least near mint). I think that's upperbound to pay when going in bulk on those sort of things.

But watch my attitude change. I need 350 more boxes and 150 more manuals.

And wow, that supports my friend's theory that sfsurvivor and pa_nes_ian are the same person.

being a beginner collector(only about 100+ games) i already am getting into buying games i already have just for the box/manual and i can say its a little tedious. originally i just wanted to go for carts but then i see auctions and stuff and im like "what the heck, i might as well complete it" and i buy something i have. but atleast its still fun to complete a game, as soon as its too much work ill just buy carts. if it wasnt a challenge it wouldnt be collecting...
