Default Wii Has its Biggest Sales Week Ever

Wii beats the previous record of 1.78 million while Mario Kart Wii reenters the top 10 worldwide software!

Yep. The biggest week Wii had before was 1.78 million in one week and last week it beat this record with 1.84 million and is now the highest one week sales for a home console this generation. It also topped Nintendo's previous top selling console, the NES, this year.

And Mario Kart Wii has hit 20 million while it came back into the top 10 of worldwide sales and only about 500k sales away from the top ten all time selling games.

All the while Wii Sports Resort obtained another 1.07 million sales this week to top 10 million before the end of the year. And New Super Mario Brothers Wii right on its heels with another million seller week and topping 8.2 million sales total.

All these sales ending December 26th, a great way for the Wii to end the holiday sales period.

Nintedo really just fucking dominated this generation with the DS and Wii. They've sold so many units, they don't even need to worry about the competition anymore. The fact that the DS has sold more than the Playstation 2, and has had half the lifespan is just ridiculous.

What surprises me about this article is that Mario Kart Wii has sold so well. I had no idea that it was anywhere near 20 million copies sold. That's damn impressive for a game that wasn't a pack-in.

NSMB Wii has already hit over 8 million sales?! Nintendo must be raking it in. I imagine it's been selling at near full price and the game can't have cost that much to make in comparison to most of today's multi-million sellers.

Ironically I own a Wii and 30 games for it but have neither WSR, MKWii or NSMB Wii. I've played them all at friends houses and enjoyed them. I just don't particularly want to pay £30 -£40 for them.

I cant believe the wii still sells well. It has never impressed me. Everyone was on the band wagon when it released but I thought people caught on to how mediocre it is by now.

It is true that the Wii has alot of shovelware, but it also has some great games and gameplay as well. It is all perspective. The Wii offers a great experience to those who like

    1. Nintendo Franchises and games
    2. Family gaming
    3. Casual gaming

The system is not for you if you dont like

    1. Mature First Person Shooters
    2. High End HD Graphics
    3. Dating, Date night, or Couples Gaming
    4. Advanced Online gaming

Funny jokes aside, I love to play the Wii mostly when friends are over and with my Wife. I do play my PS3 more, but can see how fun the Wii is when others are over. The system is very accessible and is brilliantly marketed to a wide user base. The folks who dont like the wii are probably not ever going to like it. The the plain truth of the matter is that the Wii is totally dominating the sales chart and IS much more than a mediocre game system, pending on how you look at it. Anyone who has spent some time with more than a handful of the "Good" games can tell you that the system is alot of fun.

I don't know the exact reason that drives you to purchase a Nintendo Wii ... but fell in the trap after playing Tennis on Wii Sports in a friend's house

My sister fell on the Wii after actually finding one in a Toys R'Us ... she didn't really knew the system that well but she knew it was hard to find one in the store, so she purchased it right away

After more than 2 years, i have only played 3 games and i still use Wii Sports ... my sister after 2 years still haven't played more than 2 hours the Mario Galaxy and neither uses the console :P

Wii takes a lot of heat from certain gamers, but it's freaking awesome. If it were not for Wii I'd have stopped with consoles last gen. As far as gaming in the 'current' stuff anyway. I'll get the rest when they are used and cheap and not new. Kinda what I been doing with PS2 and Xbox games lately... Gamecube games are not usually cheap (the ones I want at least), so I get less of them still.

I heard the market soured on them a bit in Japan... Wonder what the deal is, saturation?

Not when you consider it's just that freakin' great. I don't have my copy yet, but I have played it several times at friends/relatives homes, and it's killer. I normally hate (& rampantly suck at) racing games, but Mario Kart Wii is so easy to play it's deceptive.

I admit, when customers come in looking for any "excellent" Wii game, this is one of the games I highly recommend (together with WiiPlay, if they need another controller). I do this because I know it's a great game...and because it gives great commission (since it's counted as an accessory and not as a video game, which is nine times it's usual commission ).

But unfortunately, it seems I may never be able to pick up the game at anything less than $30, at least not for a few more years.

I don't think they ever really did worry - they've always been profitable, regardless as to their position in the marketplace. PS2 might have had the biggest market share last gen, but Nintendo made fistfuls of money with Gamecube.

What you should probably say instead is that *fanboys* don't have to worry about the competition anymore, as there's no way Nintendo will 'lose' this generation

It kind of blows that whole "doesn't everyone who wanted one already own one" thing out of the water that I've heard from people on here. I know several people who finally got a Wii because the price came down. Nintendo certainly knows what they're doing when it comes to selling consoles. Just think, if they had made a super powerfull system instead to cater to hardcore gamers only, it would cost a lot more and they could very well be loosing the console battle.
