    Unhappy My 5200 isn't working.

    Just what the title says.

Actually, everything does work, except for the directional controllers. As far as I can tell, this is true of all the control ports.

It is NOT the controllers, not is it the port itself. The problem is beyond that.

There is some chaotic movement horizontally, including if you gently brush your finger tip over PINs 9, 10, and 11. As far as vertical movement goes, almost zip. This is true (mostly) of all the ports. Since it is a problem common to all, it must be a common factor.

As far as I can tell from the schematics for a 5200, the problem is likely somewhere in the transistor cluster at the lower right of the circuit board, or, more likely, the POKEY chip. there are other possiblities, but, those seem the most likely. If it is the POKEY chip, and one can buy a new one, at least it is a..."snap" to replace it (a most excellent feature).

Can anyone direct me to a schematic for the POKEY chip itself, so I can test it? I do like this 5200, and would like to get it running again. Or if someone can give me a few tips, even better!

    Thanks.

I'll run a few more tests tonight, but for now, this is what I have.

You can get a replacement POKEY chip from Best Electronics in California. $10 plus shipping, which can't be much.

I'll send away for one- but they do have a $20.00 minimum order policy.

Thanks. Do you know of any schematics for this chip?

Yes, I have those- but I need one for the POKEY chip specifically. Otherwise, I cannot test it, because I won't know what to look for. This was how I repired my CV Roller Controller module; the schematics detailed what to test for.

That was my first such repair.

If you had a copy of Ballblazer for the 7800 you were willing to sacrifice, you could steal a POKEY from that.

Sadly, I don't, but even if I did, it's not likely I could remove it so cleanly that it would plug in to a 5200- they actually plug in in a 5200 (nice!).

No, I need to find out how to test it, so I don't go through the hassle of purchasing and then changing the wrong chip.

EVERYTHING works here, except for the directional controls. This is true of all four ports.
