Default If You Live or Ever Lived in NYC, Need Your Help!

When I was in the 5th or 6th grade, i remember my teacher taking our class on a field trip to what i remember being, something of a retro video game museum, it had probably like 50 arcades and a back room that had some of the current (for the time) home consoles, i remember that being the 1st time i ever played 3do,

that was also my 1st time playing space invaders and pac man, but they also had some newer machines like nba jam and mortal kombat (i think? )

anyway this is where the help comes in, i have no idea where the hell that museum was or if it even was in fact a museum, although i cant think of anything else it could have been, i remember them showing us short films, but i dont remember if they were videogame related.

im reasonably sure it was in manhattan and if i had to guess, i'd say it was midtown, could be closer to central park, im just curious to see if anyone knows where im talking about and if they've ever been there.

i really really would like to know if that place would still be open today, i would love to go back there, i hope someone out there knows

    HELP!

My guess is it was one of the Arcade exhibitions at the Museum of the Moving Image - they've had several classic game exhibitions over the years. (Though it's located in Queens and not Manhattan)

The way you describe it makes it sound indeed like the Video Game Exhibit they had at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens...I should know as thats my home I actually went to it myself back in '95 and, sure enough, it was the way you described. They had mostly retro arcade machines at the front of the exhibit (showing the progression of arcade machines throughout the years) and in the back were some chairs and tables with tvs that had current systems hooked up to it. They had a Playstation hooked up there right before the US release and had Toshinden running on it. I remember my cousin worked there for a bit and got me a discount when I went. It was actually a nice little display.

Here is the link to the museum and its current display of video games...
