Default Addicted to a mediocre/bad game

Has this ever happened to anyone? I don't necessarily even mean a bad version of an addicting game (Say, some terrible Tetris knockoff), but any game in particular that you keep finding yourself playing, no matter how terrible.

I've had bouts in the past where I've been determined to beat a terrible game, and recently it's started up again. Lately I've been playing "Great Baseball" for the Master System daily. I know it's bad, and I have far better baseball games at hand, such as the one for the Odyssey 2. Nevertheless, I am drawn to the Mega Cartridge and it's awful voice synthesis.

I guess I just find it entertaining, and wanted to know if anyone else has gone through phases of terrible gaming.

    If not...Super Tennis, anyone?

Does Action 52 count? The game is terrible but definitely not as bad as everyone says and I've spent a fair amount of time playing Dam Busters.

Streamers and the platformer where the lights go out are decent enough games in Action 52.

Menace Beach is my guilty pleasure. The various elements of the game make it so bad it's good from the weird enemies, the girlfriend yelling at you between levels while her clothes slowly disintegrate, and other things make it a pretty funny game to play. Operation Secret Storm is pretty amusing too.

I'm still very much addicted to Pepsiman on the PSX.

World of Warcraft a few years ago

There are a few games I love despite popular opinion of them being low. One is skullmonkeys for playstation just cuz its so charming. Looove the music and claymation, the humor, and the style.

Every now and then I consider trying to beat E.T. for Atari, but every time I mention it my little brother slaps me, lol.

There are a lot of games I consider to be excellent, but that others aren't so crazy about. I'm not sure if those count, since this seems to be a question games we ourselves admit are not good and yet continuously play.

True, I should reword myself. I admit the gameplay in skullmonkeys is pretty flawed, hit detection is bad, levels are pretty boring. But the style makes up for it. And the bonus level music.

I just looked that game up and it looks awesome. It's totally going on my list of PS1 games to buy.

Many people complain about The Hunt for Red October on the NES for playing like crap and having God-awful music. You know what? I like the game, music and all. Well, everything except for the Final Stage inside the submarine when you have to diffuse bombs. That's a pain in the *#^.

Devil May Cry 2 had a stupid story, terrible dialogue, and a completely pointless second disc that was essentially the whole game over again with a different character.

But, if played for the sheer joy of shooting stuff and chopping baddies up with swords, it's kind of fun.

E.T. on Atari was BEYOND horrible! I read an article that says the game was spit out in 24-36 hours so that may explain a lot right there.

My personal shame is Pariah for the Xbox. Gameplay is a pretty mediocre Halo ripoff at best, but what really puts it in the crapper is its "story line." Consider the plot twist where it is revealed that the bad guys have his daughter--the twist is that up until that point (the end of the game), the story makes no mention of any daughter! Despite this, I actually enjoy playing this game now, and have beaten it four or five times, usually as a co-op mission.

OMG, I just remembered two games which were way beyond bad, infact It's pretty safe to assume every gamer who has played them counts them as POS games.

Hydlide(damnit, I have a rep to uphold, one that states, I beat/destroy every RPG I play, so I kind've had no choice in the matter).

Then there's Dr. Jekyll, and Mr Hyde: Oh man boy does that game suck lol, but it being so annoyingly hard pissed me off to the point, that I had to keep trying until I beat it(I couldn't allow such a POS game to get the better of me. I hate that game so much, needless to say, after I beat it, I never touched the game ever again, as it probally ranks up there as one of the worst games of all time).

Good lord man, that's not true! It was 5-1/2 weeks. See http://www.digitpress.com/library/in...t_warshaw.html for more info.

And it was not beyond horrible. If you think that, try Scuba Diver/Skin Diver. *shiver*

I think alot of the flack that ET gets wouldnt happen if it wasnt some apparent retro gaming pop-culture acceptance ritual to go

E.T.? HAH THAT GAME BLOWS. LETS GO PEE ON THE LANDFILL WHERE THEY THREW EM OUT AT.

I thought it wasn't BAD. It was just boring after 10 minutes. You beat it once and there ain't much replay value.

I love Hydlide. I own all of them, and have completed them all. The genesis port of 3 is one of my favorite genesis games!

hydlide is a charming, quirky, and fun series.

Is burger time considered a bad game? Because I love it, haha.

And yeah, as was mentioned above, E.T. is by no means the worst video game ever (I think I'd give that to Plumbers Don't Wear Ties). And it seems like they were trying to do a lot with it, but it just fails.

Personally, I really like games that most people aren't crazy about, or haven't even heard of, but are still fun.

In terms of that, the original Xbox has a lot of obscure gems, some of which aren't that good, but are still fun. Azurik comes to mind. The fighting system is kind of sketchy, but I still like it.

Well not exactly, but I was addicted to a game that evil crappy SOE bought up(Pox Nora, which used to be great), which they then destroyed(all the changes hasn't taken effect yet, but It's as good as done). However luckily these past few changes are so drastically bad, that I was able to leave once, and for all(as there is no hope for PN being worthwile anymore).

PS. Oh man do I feel loaded with dough, since I stopped spending money on that game(somehow I managed to not only pay off my credit card, and pay people I owed money too due to xmas, but I was also able to spend a bunch of money hor myself).

Oh dear sweet Jebus, I can relate. I call these titles "secret shames", and mine is none other than the Neo Geo's Ninja Combat.

Even when I was a kid I knew it was trash, but back in the early 90s the huge sprites and awesome audio set the new standard for gaming A/V..at least for me. I actually wrote about it.

    http://www.2d-x.com/secret-shame-rev...-ninja-combat/

China Warrior was also an old school fave, but thats perhaps stiffer and shallower than Ninja Combat!
