Default Looking for impossible puzzle game for PC

A long while back in the dawn of the internet I heard about a puzzle game for PC. I don't remember if it was for DOS or Win95 but the gist of it was this. It was a puzzle game game that had some kind of prize attached to it like cash to the first person who beat it. It was kind of like Myst if I remember right but the kicker was this. You were never told what needed to be done or how to do it. You had to do everything right in your choices or else the game would end and start back at the beginning. No second chances no hints what you missed. The one site that i saw talked about people collaborating on how they got to room to room to try to win the money as a group if it could be beaten. It sounded like that this site ( that I can't seem to find anymore) was a continuation of the work that was done on old BBS groups. I know this is a long shot but I would love to know if anyone would have a lead on the game or the website it was talked about. Thanks!

The descriptions of Treasure Quest on Mobygames and Wikipedia make it sound like an extremely likely candidate, yes.

I was about to suggest Blue Ice, but it does not quite meet the criteria (i.e. it does not suddenly end and start back at the beginning).
