Default Prototype XBand SNES Network Adapter

I have a prototype SNES XBand network cart. It's a clear cart and has a generic white sticker on the front that says catapult entertainment.

Doesn't do much since the XBand network is no longer around to connect to anymore.

I'm curious to know what you guys think its worth?

Something like this would be worth less than a prototype of an actual game since it's basically useless.

I'll snap a pic of it when I have a moment.

My thoughts exactly, which is why I held on to this thing for sometime now and sold off the proto games that I acquired at the same time.

It does serve as a pass-through adapter for SFC games so it's not totally useless I guess.

It's possible it could be useful for those folks who were researching a XBand revivial project of some sort. Do you know if it has some of that game patch data and whatnot?

You could see if Neviksti wants it. He has done craploads of Xband research, looking into the inner workings of the modem.

It's worth about $100. I have a Genesis one and would love to have a SNES one. Played a ton of Xband back in the day...If you want to sell it, please contact me!

I recall seeing one of those on ebay like... 8 years ago. Think it went for something around $120. No clue if that's an accurate representation of what it'd fetch now, though (Status quo or increase/decrease)

Every time someone talks about trying to resurect xband, I always think to myself that it would be a thousand times easier to just redesign the system using modern tools. Instead of a modem, a glorified BBS and a phoneline you could have wifi, internet connectivity and decent ping times.

It wouldn't be that hard to do.

I think it would be pointless to revive the X-band anyways, considering there are emulators (though outdated) that allow you to play online. Not to mention the fact that you would have to be lucky enough to find the patches that Catapult made for the games that worked with it.

Emulators on line don't do it justice, the music, matchup screen, record keeping, all that was the appeal. Even the "xmail."

I'd rather, in my opinion, code a new Xband system for the SNES and possibly N64 and call it Xnet or something similar. That, and it'd use wireless interent, so that there'd be no dipshits with the usual "my brother tripped over the phone cord" excuse.

You can still turn the power off. Doesn't stop disconnects from happening.

Finally had some time to snap some pics today.

Thanks for all the interest, I'm planning on keeping this so its not for sale at the moment.

Honestly, I don't know too much about the Xband network and the Xband cart. So what is suppose to fit into the slots?

Top is for the game. Side is for when Xband was going to use a card system but never actually did utilize it nationwide.

i did and still do have my xband for snes which is purple and in mint shape with the packaging... had it online for a short time. it was quite cumbersome though and not like the online gaming experience today.

    are they worth anything?

Default I have something I believe to be of value?!

I have an X-Band for SNES. It is brand new, in the box, with the original shrink-wrapping on it. It has separated along the seam on one small side of the box, but it is in very good condition otherwise. You can clearly see that it has never been opened. What do you think this might be worth?

Used X-band modems might be of more interest because there is a chance that some information is still on them (though from what I read the SRAM they used on them wasn't very good).
