    Default Glitching Game Boy Game

I was trying to play Zelda: Link's awakening for game boy when something weird happened.

The game will start up and go through the intro but after the title screen, where it should show the saved games, it just shows link on a blank screen. I don't mean blank as in my save files are gone, I mean completely void of anything but link. I can select the "invisible" save files and start the games. When I do so, I get link on a blank screen again. Enemies show up as well, but no walls or anything else.

I tried cleaning the contacts and I tried playing the game on three different systems. Same result.

My first thought was to open the game up and short out the battery to erase all the save information. Maybe a corrupt save is affecting everything. I don't have the bit to open the game though.

    Any thoughts?

*Update* I blindly went through and deleted all the save files. This fixed the problem. So I guess I was right

hmmm, my copy just goes to a blank screeen and then nothing but a single tone on the speakers after the intro seq. Maybe if i could find some screenshots fo the select file screen I could try deleteing them. Ive tried everything

Well, sprites and background tiles are controlled by different parts of the hardware so it has to have something do with that. I don't know why deleting files would fix the problem though. Other than that, batteries don't like being shorted out, but opening a gameboy cart is easy without the bit. I've used a small pair of scissors before. Open them up just enough to fit in the little notches on the screw and use them like pliers.

I have the bit to open them. Hopefully I can try the vid/ OP's method.
