    Default MMMC - Double Dribble

Yeah, I had to. It's NCAA Tournament time, and I'm a big time basketball fan...so it seemed obvious that Double Dribble HAD to be this week's game.

At least, it seemed obvious to me.

So, does Double Dribble in the arcade still stand up as a revolutionary entry in the basketball genre? Or does the fact that you have to manually dribble the ball annoy you to no end these days?

Oh boy, a sports game. I'll be out of my comfort zone on this one, but I'll give it a whirl anyway.

OK, I sit here, and I think I'm going to stick with the NES version of this game. I'm just not getting the comfort I know I used to have with that silly dribble button. Maybe it's my keyboard setup or something, but I can't dribble and think at the same time apparently.

    OK, tried it out...

I can't believe the game opens with the entire Star Spangled Banner and a lot of it is actually out of key.

Aside from that, the game is actually quite fun once you get a hang of the controls. Decent graphics and gameplay that, while irritating at times, does the trick.

I had fun with this one.

Yeah I couldn't get the hang of the controls. Just when I learned how to pass correctly, then the other team began stealing the ball when I would. It's also very easy to throw the ball out of bounds or run out of bounds. When I've been playing Donkey Kong all weekend, in comparison this game has too many buttons and things to remember in order to play decently. Maybe it would have been a little better if I had bezels enabled in MAME, and I could continually reference it while playing.

I did a Wilt Chamberlain back in 1987 and scored 100 points on one quarter, all without shooting one three point basket, because they were too hard to do and my money was rather scarce back then.

Nowadays I think my personal best is 74 points without continuing.
