Default Learning to mod with source

I would really like to learn how to mod Source games (HL2) but not sure where to download the Source engine or what else I need to mod. Also if you guys could give me some tips on modding.

    Thanks

There is alot of work you can do to mod Source games and it depends on what specifically you want to change. You can make skins or maps for existing games or you can create a all new mod for an existing game, or you can basically make a brand new games based around the engine.

The first thing would be to download steam. Then you need to download the Source SDK (you may need to own Half-Life 2 first) and Hammer editor. Source SDK is the basic code for Source games. Hammer editor is the level creator.

For models and skins, you need a modeling program like 3DS Max or Maya and for skinning you need Photoshop or GIMP. There are some other plugins and tools you may need for skins but I'm not sure.

And here is the development wiki: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/w..._Documentation

If you need any more help, I'd be glad to help, but chances are you won't be able to completely make a Source mod alone, there are usually teams made up to do this kinda thing. I'd be better to find an area of expertise (coding, mapping, moddeling, skins, etc).

If you got any questions, you can send me a pm and I'll try to help more.
