Default Slackers Cds and Games overpriced?

Is it just me or does Slackers overprice their older vintage stuff. They charge 30 dollars and up just for loose copies of Contra III and Super Castlevania- games that should only sell for about 12 dollars in this shape according to the DP Guide. I've also seen games like Battletoads (SNES) go for 20 dollars there (which I was foolish enough to buy- bad deal since its only loose but in mint shape). Anybody else run into this problem at Slackers Cds and Games?

Reminds me of my very own Pre-Played.
Has A Link to the Past going for $20,
and Contra for the NES going for $25.

Want to get those desperately, but since I cant go online well,
and those high prices, im stuck with garage saling.

??? I'll be honest, those look like typical retro store prices. Don't base your prices on the DP guide's pricing, btw.

That's not to say that better deals can't be found online, but you're basically paying the price for instant gratification. The stores WILL get that amount from somebody.

I think Slackers were one of the companies that sold me most of my X-Men action figures. Either that or it was probably cheap cds. I remember buying something from them though.

I'm a collector, but only to a certain extent.
Not as extreme as Rickstilwell though.[/quote]

Slacker's CDs & Games is a chain of stores in Missouri and Illinois.

    I believe their site is:

    http://www.slackers.com

Yes, they overcharge out the ass, on most things. You have to pick and choose what you buy from them if you want a good deal.

I'm pretty sure every store overprices games, just because they know people that played the games years ago will probably think its valuable and buy it. Thats one of the reasons I got a job at goodwill.

I'd imagine most stores go by eBay prices and places like www.videogamepricecharts.com/.

Prices on DP haven't been updated in a while. And it's exactly what they refer to as: a guide. you have to find out on your own in your own opinion what you want to pay for stuff. Plus you're talking about 2 in demand games. Regardless of condition, if they feel they can charge that much then they can go ahead and charge it. You know what you want to pay, so you can either pony up the dough for the items or you can find it elsewhere for cheaper if you feel you can find a better deal. Keep this in mind for the future when collecting.

They can be just a tad overpriced on some things but Slackers is pretty reasonably priced for what they are (Think DP store but also having CD's, movies, board games, action figures, and comic books)*.

They are also only in the St. Louis(ish) area but there are quite a few all over in the area and one of the few places that carry classic games and systems.

You should check out Game Trader in St. Charles. They smell like an ash tray but have pretty much everything classic wise you could imagine(the only place in town I've found that sells Lynx games and an import section) and prices are generally really good.

*Comparison is based on assumptions(and pics) as I've never actually been to the DP store
"Game programmers are generally lazy individuals. That's right. It's true. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Since the dawn of computer games, game programmers have looked for shortcuts to coolness." Kurt Arnlund - Game programmer for Activision, Accolade...

I was in Missouri on a trip back in October, and I must have hit up like 7 or 8 Slackers stores during the course of it. I typically shop at Game X Change stores in Arkansas, so going to a new chain was nice. I did get lucky with a few items: factory sealed copy of Backstreet Billiards for PS1 for $15, factory sealed copy of the Arc the Lad Collection Hardcover Strategy Guide for $20. On the whole, however, I thought they were higher-priced on average than the Game X Change stores I'm used to visiting.

It's worth noting, though, that even the Game X Change stores typically far overprice compared to the DP guide. To be honest, I don't even look at the DP guide when I'm thinking about buying something. I just decide whether or not it's worth the price to me personally.

There's a store called Game Werks in West Branson that's just ridiculous when it comes to the overpricing. The female manager that was there when I visited told me she bases the prices on what she sees "online." It's a shame...I'd have walked out with 3 or 4 different Saturn titles if she'd been more reasonable.
