Default Can someone help me diagnose what is wrong with my Genesis Model 1?

last time I played was a couple of years ago, yesterday I opened it up and cleaned it.
I no longer have the original RF or AC adapter for it, but I used the NES RF and AC to try it out (they are working cause it works well with the NES).

But I get no picture, I have made a video of it and uploaded on youtube to show the problem, hopefully someone can help me out.

    To the Technical forum!

    Questions for you/others:
    1) Are the NES RF and AC adapters compatible with the Genesis? I'm pretty sure they're not, but I'm not an expert.
    2) Are you using the right channel?

1 - Asked around in another thread and they told me it was compatible with rf, 1 guy said not compatible with AC but another said yes it was compatible.

2 - Yes tried in the right channel (3) also used 4 just in case.

Try it on an old tube TV. My HDTV doesn't like some of the old consoles either.

The NES AC adapter draws 17W, the Genesis mk1 needs 35W. That's likely the problem. My advice; get a mk1 Genesis adapter.
    Whaddya mean invalid parameters?!

NES AC adapter + Genesis = death. AC vs DC. Been brought up many times in the tech forum before, use google to get around the search size limit.

I was the one who gave him the go ahead on the RF cable. I know you can use the RF from an NES on a Genesis, as that is what I'm using on mine.

Although, whoever told him that an NES AC adapter will work on a Genesis should be kicked in the face with a golf shoe.
I collect for: Odyssey2, Atari 2600, Atari 5200, ColecoVision, NES, SNES, N64, SMS, Genesis, Dreamcast, PSX, and TI-99/4A

I had the same issue with my Genesis Model 1 at the beginning of last summer. The NES plug may fit, and the light may turn on, but it WILL NOT work. You'll just get garbage on the screen. Use a Genesis Model 1 power supply. Or find a third-party one. I grabbed one from Play N Trade that could power a Genesis and a SNES (had both plug types). I would worry about long-term use with one of those, so it would be better to grab a 1st party power supply.

You should be able to use a Nintendo RF cable just fine. I use a Sega one with my top-loading NES (You just plug it into the input as opposed to screwing it in. Much easier.)

You can't run a Genesis with an AC power supply.
The NES has the bridge rectifier inside the console itself, so it can accept an AC or DC input.
So you can power an NES with a Genesis Model 1 AC adaptor, but not vice versa.

    Moved to Tech & Resto.

Your bigger problem is that your Xbox appears to be your Genesis. Must be hard to play Halo or Grabbed By The Ghoulies on that Genny 1.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.
