Default Turbo Grafx CD Drive only spins disks

I got a Turbo Grafx CD drive unit that powers on but only spins the game/disc really fast but never loads.

Mine sounds like the same issue as this one being sold:

There's a lot of interest in the one for sale so I'm thinking people know how to fix this problem....Is there an easy fix?

You have the CD card in, right?

One of the assembly gears could be stuck, or busted, or the laser dead. In any case you'd have to find another drive to part out. The laser can also be bought new. Hit the Pcenginefx forums. They have a working list of discmans, ect that can be gutted for parts in the tech section.

Awesome, thanks for the info and directing me towards a possible fix. I'll have to look into it.

Open up the CD drive and see if you can turn the gears with your finger. If they don't seem to want to turn then they are jammed up or broken. Sometimes they just seize up and you can break them free. You can try to lubricate the gears, but that may only be a temporary fix. But first thing I'd do is open it up and check it out.
