Default Need help identifying game (Windows)

I remember this old game for Windows, either 95 or 3.1, that came with the system, or so I recall. Somehow I believe it dealt with Star Trek but I could be wrong. All I remember was you would control a ship which would move on a small windowed grid. On the grid there would be stars and or dark space and as I remember the objective was to defeat all other ships in brief while travelling around the galaxy. I remember it being a fun game to kill time but it's been years since I played it, over 10 to be sure. Any help is welcome.

Could be EGA Trek, or more likely its successor Visual Star Trek.

Neither one is a Windows game, though.

Definitely wasn't DOS. Thanks for the first attempt though.

    Birth of the Federation?

    Edit-
Maybe not. It was released in 99 which is probally too late to be the one you're looking for.

    Try looking though this list...

As mentioned, I thought it was a Star Trek game, and while I checked wikipedia prior to posting, that doesn't mean all games are chronicled. The bottom line was it was around the mid 1990's and it was small game but with some depth and longevity.

Star Control? I don't remember a grid, but I did not play it too much.

Appears to be DOS only for the most part, which doesn't corroberate with what I remember.

Windows 95 might be a stretch but it's very hard to say. Anyone on information regarding games in Windows 3.1?

I don't remember all the red in in the first screenshot but the controls section sure seems familiar. This could be it, after all it's been at least 15 years since I played or saw this game, I will give it a go. Thank you.

For anyone else inclined, the game is now freeware and supports XP. Get it here; http://www.joejaworski.com/wintrek/

My my, how did that elude me so completely all these years?

I was quite fond of EGA Trek back in the day and often thought it could only be improved by a graphical facelift. I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been an even better-looking version in recent years.
