Yes, I think almost all SMS and 32X games work, as do MD games from all regions. Genesis cannot play Game Gear at all. Also note that certain games that used EEPROM for saves have issues. Some play without saving, others won't work at all.

Could someone please explain why this is? It was my understanding that the Game Gear was, in essence, a portable Master System. I'd long assumed that Game Gear games would run on a Genesis if a converter existed for it.

The short answer is that the Game Gear is capable of displaying 4096 colors while the Master System is limited to 256.

    It answered the question.

He's telling you that the Game Gear had some technical enhancements (A larger color palette being the primary one) compared to the Master System. The Genesis was built to be backwards compatible with the Master System. But since the Genesis doesn't have the capability built in to handle those enhancements the Game Gear saw, those games can't play in a Genesis.

A handful have been hacked to run through the Master System hardware. But the last I saw of that there were still issues with lock ups, odd behavior, and incorrect colors for the 3-4 titles that had been converted to run on SMS hardware.

The Game Gear isn't just a portable SMS.

The last person who reported anything I've seen, about 3 months ago, said no. It works on all 3 official models, Nomad, and CDX. The SEGA-CD Bios only works on some regions.

I just saw that this project exists for a lot of consoles:

Harmony Cartridge for the Atari 2600 for $50
NES and SNES at retrousb but it's very pricey..

    Now one for the MD.

I would like to know wich one is the best for the N64 console.

Does anyone here have one that loads roms from the SD card into the N64 ?

Neo Myth has one, but its expensive, and uses those hokey little gba cart style memory units (though I know their genesis cart has an optional memory adapter thing for sd cards, which might also work in their n64 cart).

    Thanks Zapf!

$200 is just too $$$$ for me right now

And I don't think it's worth it. N64 have 20-30 good games tops. With $200 you can buy all of them cartridge loose.

Any news about what? There weren't any questions left to be answered. If you want to see if new updates have come out for the EverDrive, just check their website.

I'm sorry, I should have quoted StoneAgeGamer. I meant to ask him if there was any update on his stock situation... at last update he was waiting to get SD cards in and then he'd be ready to sell his first batch.

SCD will play burned backups without hardware modification or bypass... AFAIK: The Everdrive cart can change the SCD bios so you can load import games that have problems being disk image edited/patched for region. Still need the SCD hardware and a game disk.

If you can load disk images from an SD card, I would really like to know that. If only for a chance at improved load times.

Somebody came up with a hacked/modified Sonic CD rom that runs on Genesis alone, but it's just one level, buggy as hell, and has no music.

Picked one of these up about a month ago and only wish I had done it sooner.

I found the compatibility much greater than either of the Powerpaks, with pretty much all of the trainers, translations, and pirate originals thrown at it working. The SMS compatibility is pretty good as well.

Really the only trouble I've ran into are EA games, and I'm sure there could be a simple checksum fix to get them working.

So Sega CD games and 32X can be played? that's awesome.

I just watched a video at the link above, it seems to load games kinda slow.

There are issues with roms that use EEPROM to save, and many EA games did. Though the Acclaim sports games will have worse issues than EA.

It doesn't play SegaCD games, you can use it to override the BIOS to play burned and import CD games. You still need the SegaCD module. The rom I referenced is a one-time project by someone, but as you can see, it's not worthwhile. As for the loading, I think firmware updates after that video have made it faster.

I'm offering a Custom Cartridge Label Service....

I can do the layout or you can send me the artwork.

$5 shipped if you have the artwork or it's something I've already done.
    Discounts for multiple decals!
