Atari Jaquar has me seeing red-Suggestions please

I bought an Atari Jaguar system theis weekend but when I connect it to my tv it goes on and the jaguar logo goes on but then the screen turns red (the logo is stilll there) and the system freezes. I have tested the rf wire, controller, power cord and the game with a friends console and everything works. Please help me get this system functional.

I've got the same problem with a Jaguar system that I've just picked up as well.

Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

Clean it. Then, clean it again. Once you're done, clean it.

Once you've cleaned it 400 times, be sure to clean all the games, too.

Actually, it goes triple! The cartridge edge that attaches the Jag CD to the Jag console is attached internally to... another cartridge slot!

I've fixed a few flaky Jag CD units by removing that little cartridge board & cleaning the internal connector along with the other 2 exposed connectors. Madness.

Hmm, if I knew that maybe I would have kept my Jag stuff, I got rid of it awhile back before I got more into game restoration and repair. Alas with the problems it was giving me I figured I'd sell it all for a few hundred bucks before I went homicidal on it.

i had the same problem, just give it a good cleaning and it should be fine after that.

Dumb question but how do you clean the Jaguar itself? Are you talking about actually disassembeling the Jag or can it really just be cleaned? If it can simply be cleaned then what would you use? The connector seems pretty small and tight, is it a simple rubbing alcohol and Q*tip job? I've replaced cart connectors before (NES) but never really cleaned one.

I have a generic system cleaning kit that I use on mine, but you could do the whole "credit card & paper towel soaked in alcohol" thing too. Search for 'credit card' in this forum for lots of insight.

Only tricky bit is that there are 2 sections to the pin connector, one large and one tiny. You'll have to find something small in order to clean the tiny section.

Suppose a metal nail file should do for that. (ask a friend, significant other, girlfriend, yourself if you happen to be female, etc. for one) Follow the credit card instructions but wrap the paper towel around the file instead of the credit card. Haven't tried it myself but that should work.

I heard a cheap bar/restaurant coaster works well for connectors in general, but Ive never tried it.

I had the same problem with both of the Jaguars that i had

One just needed a good cleaning id take a alcohol wipe and wrap it around one of those keychain grocery store discount cards and clean them that way if their really bad i will use a little piece of like 1000 grit sandpaper wrapped around the card and some alcohol to clean it.

Second one had one that had a bent connector pin and i had to re bend it back up .. and after that it worked pretty good!
