I'm not sure why you don't trust the ebay prices, it really is the best way to get a true market value.

If you're talking about tracking multiple auctions over several years, I would agree with you. If you're talking about looking at the most recent auction (last 15 days) or garbage that sits with an inflated buy it now for months or years, I would say Ebay is a terrible gauge of value.
