    Default Modding Dreamcast?

Is it possible to removed the need for a swap disc with non selfbooting DC backups by using some kind of mod chip?

    Thanks!

Are you guys really using "backups?" Or is backups being used as a replacement for another set of words.
Everything in the above post is opinion unless stated otherwise.

Most of the time that's the case, but that's because the game image is modified to run without using a boot disc. When a game is made like this it's called "selfboot", although since that's not how the game is originally dumped some games are not selfboot (Mainly earlier or less popular DC backups?) . Or at least this is my understanding of how it works.

All "selfboots" are, more or less, modified ISOs. They were in abundance a time ago because they were easy to play on unmodified Dreamcasts, but I believe now there's been a trend on going back to dump "pure/clean" data.

I do not recall anyone mentioning a way to modify Dreamcasts to read such data - probably because Dreamcast GD-Rs are practically collectible on their own as it is. IIRC the standard game software isn't designed to run normally on a CD-R (and most games would not fit into a CD-R anyway.)

Just buy a Japanese Dreamcast. You can get them for about $20.00 these days.
