Cap replacement on Commodore 1701's?

Got a stack of 1701's; 2 of them are kinda blurry. I know that many of the arcade monitors out there get their capacitors replaced. Is this possible on home use monitors? I love my baby 1701's, they're the best gaming monitors, and I want to keep them for another 30 years.

Definitely a possibility. Easiest route would be to find someone selling a kit, although that may or may not exist. Otherwise open one up and see which ones you need, the values should be right on the body of the cap.

I haven't seen a cap kit for either the 1701 or 1702 unfortunately. You will probably have to disassemble it and get all of the cap values manually.

I just pulled open one of my 1702 monitors and it looks like it has 31 electrolytic caps in it. More than I was expecting.
Anyone got a service manual?

Recap them! I recapped an LCD monitor that I had for several years just a few months ago. It was giving me intermittent problems and would not stay on. I opened that baby up and made a list of all the caps I needed, went to www.mouser.com and ordered the needed caps. It fixed the problem, and now I feel silly for buying a second monitor. If you can't find the service manual, just open it up and make a list. I just put in an order to Mouser yesterday so I could rebuild some switching power supplies for an upcoming arcade project.

If you have an electronic device that's giving you trouble that you don't want to throw out, I'd replace caps first. It's easy and they're cheap.

Yeah, I've seen those places. I've always been somewhat reluctant to trust them as well.
