Oldschoolgamer? You have a Gamecube broadband adapter you don't need? ^_^
Funny this is mentioned. My understanding was the SGB2 was identical except for the link port. Then, I was reading an issue of (I think) Gamepro from a few months ago and they mentioned the SGB2 had GBC capability. I was like, WTF? I have NEVER heard that before. I thought it had to be a typo, then I see it reiterated here. However, the SGB2 came out in 1995, iirc, so I don't see how this wold be possible considering the 1997 or 1998 release of the GBC.
So confused.

The moral is, don't **** with Uncle Tim when he's been drinking!
It doesn't support Game Boy Color specific titles. Anyone that is saying the SGB2 does is confused and incorrect.

WHERE DID THEIR HAIR GO?
The GC is worth keeping OSG if you have the gb player or even pso and the bba to play it on a privite server.Heck that's why i still have mine.
They may be getting it confused with the Super Game Boy enhanced titles...which of course any SGB will support.
In any case, hooray for the Game Boy Player, even if fullscreen makes games stretched and nasty. I got lucky and found the retro Hori controller on the cheap (never have used it though).
Aside from the already mentioned Gameboy Player, I keep my GC because I simply don't want a Wii.
I kept my Gamecube even after getting the Wii.
1. For Gameboy games. Seriously, it can play all but ~30 of them.
2. Four Swords Adventures. You can play this GC game on the Wii, and if you still have a Gamecube with a GB Player, you can hook it up to the Wii and it acts like a GBA.
I honestly have no reason to buy a second gameboy for multiplayer. Using a portable DVD player and a gamecube works just as well.
I also keep mine for the Game Boy player (which is one of the coolest console add-ons of all time). However, my number one reason for still owning a Game Cube is to avoid having to "go through" the Wii in order to play GC games. There is just something ultra-irritating about having to wave that stupid remote around just to select the Game Cube/disc channel. I wish Nintendo would update the Wii to allow booting directly to a GC game.
On the flip side, if you don't have a Game Cube component cable (I do, but I was lucky and got it for next to nothing), it's gonna be hard to go back to playing in s-video or composite (unless your current TV doesn't support component and/or progressive scan, in which case, you won't see any visual upgrade with the Wii).
Lastly, the Game Cube is 10x more adorable than the Wii, and is so widely shunned nowadays that if nothing else, you should keep it out of pity.
Much like the Action Replay won't work, the Freeloader disc that enables import GameCube titles to play on the GameCube won't work on the Wii. I got a Freeloader disc at EB waaaaay back in the day for a penny so it's worth it for me to keep a GameCube or two around.
I've acquired a few decent import GameCube games over the few years. I still need to open my copy of Family Stadium 2003 and give it a try.
Currently catching up on PSN, WiiWare, Wii U E-Shop and Xbox Live Arcade exclusives I missed.
That's actually really cool. I suppose you could do that just as easily with two GC's.
I wish you could just navigate with a controller like every other console.
Dicking around with the remote for games, even Wii games, that use different controllers really is lame.

Yeah, the classic controller indeed works well on the channel menus. One thing that bugs me though, is if you run into an error, like the Forecast channel failing because you don't have WiiConnect24 turned on, the classic controller won't let you navigate to the exit button. You have to switch back to the remote.
This may be a dumb question, but does the Wii play GameCube games EXACTLY the same as the GameCube? I don't mean 99% the same, I mean EXACTLY. I'm a purist in that way. I still do all of my PS1 gaming on an original PlayStation just because of the small differences in how a PS2 plays them (like making ugly boxes visible around 2D sprites in some games). No matter how minute the difference between GameCube and Wii, I'd want to know about it.
So far I've continued to use the GameCube for all of my playing of GameCube games. Although in most cases it hasn't been an option since most of my GameCube playing has been at my mom's house where there's no Wii anyway.
Of all the GC games I've played on my Wii, I have never noticed any differences between the two platforms, performance-wise. Even the load times appear to be the same.
Are there any 3'rd party gamecube controllers that do not work on the Wii, or is mine just busted? I've been assuming the latter but figured I'd ask just in case.
