Default Rise Of The Robots & Rise 2 Protos?

yes I know they were both terrible (2nd game was ok really).

Lets just say I'm interested in getting prototypes of these games for 'research' reasons.

I'd like to get hold of any and all versions of both games in prototype form:

I know there's a SNES proto of Rise 1 kicking around that I'd like to buy.
Also the games were meant to come out on various other consoles like Mega CD, Jaguar, Gameboy, Mastersystem and even in the arcade!

If anyone has any protos of any versions I'd love the chance to buy them please.

As for Rise 2. A Macintosh version was rumoured and I'd be interested in finding out more or obtaining protos of pretty much any of the versions of Rise 2 as well.

thanks for reading, please help if you can.

I heard that RotR protos were worth more after flashing them with an UV light so...

    Default CD-I Version?

Apparently a CDI version of Rise 1 may exist in proto form?
(a different version from the final released one)

Maybe someone out there has this?

Might have some info as I had the unfortunate job of coding the CD-i version...

Proto versions, depends really, what I've still got on a hard drive here could be classed as one, the probably 30 versions Philips had for testing etc could be too, if any of those survive or not, I have no idea.

I've always found it a bit weird that I did do two "final" versions, one for DV and one not because there was a massive rush on at the end of the project and I didn't have time to fit code for both into the same thing so it looks like only the non-DV version got released and got packaged as requiring (or using) DV??

Mac version... hmm, did Rise 1 get released on Mac? There was definitely Mac dev going on but I can't remember if it was Rise 1 or 2 (or maybe both). I'm still in touch with the Amiga coder and one of the MDs, I'll see if they can remember.

    Hi Pete!

thanks very much for the info.
I'd be very interested in any more info or actual proto work that you did.

I'd love the chance to get hold of some of this if possible.

    I really appreciate your help.

    Cheers

    Hey,

Sorry for the massive delay in responding to this thread (and PMs). I've finally managed to dig out what may be a RotR CD-i proto. It's dated (from the path_tbl) 17/05/1995. I can't remember exactly when Rise was released so don't know how close that is to final.

I've also contacted the Amiga coder (responsible for Rise and Rise 2) and I'll ask him if it's ok to pass along his email address..

    Hi Pete!

    This is fantastic.
I'd still love the chance to see this.
Are you willing to sell it?

Thanks for getting in touch with the Amiga coder btw- is it Gary Leach by any chance?
If it is I could save you the hassle there as I've been in touch with Gary (had some great stories to tell).

    Cheers

There's not really much to sell. It's nothing special, just a Philips CD (gold label, those things cost stupid money at the time) with my untidy scrawl on it

The Amiga coder's name is Andy Clark. Gary was the PC coder (also handled the ill fated arcade version which was basically a PC board in an arcade cab). I'd be interested in seeming some of his stories I've read some stuff quoted from some of the artists and their understanding of what was actually going on was rather skewed

    Np Pete,

I would still like to get in touch with Andy Clark if at all possible since I definitely have not spoke to him.

I did get some great info about the arcade game from Gary Leach and it sounded like a more refined version than the normal PC version.

I've still kept all the old emails from the guys I've spoke to: One guy Matt Smith who mainly worked on Mirage's 3rd fighting game Theatre of Pain had some very funny stuff to tell i thought.

I'll send his emails over if you like?

    Rgds

    (Merry Xmas btw )

    Hey,

I JUST had a reply from Andy and he's not really interested in talking to anyone about Rise. Not sure why and he did apologise for being so grumpy about it, especially considering the time of year. I think he's just sick of it as a lot of people have tracked him down and asked him about it and it's generally along the lines of, "RotR is terrible, please explain"

Yeah, I'd love to read what Matt has said about it all. If you could forward mails to petedabbs at gmail dot com.

    Merry Christmas

    Default Rise of the Robots

    Hi Pete,

Haven't spoken to you for a while.

    I hope everything is well?

I'v just recently started picking up where I left off with the Rise article and wanted to get back in touch with people if possible.
I've had a tragedy recently in my life that pretty much made it impossible to pursue this but I'm ready to try again now

Pete I remember you saying that you had managed to find your Rise CDi proto?

I think I've already asked this but would you be interested in selling it at all?

I'm sorry for wasting your time if you can't though.

Default Looking for rise 1 (megadrive in blister pack. Rise 2 (saturn in blister pack)

I still want to try and locate both brand new sealed copies of Rise 1 for the MD in blister and Rise 2 for Saturn also in blister.

Would pay VERY highly for each of these items...

ALSO: I still want to locate protos of either game and I know of at least 1 CDi Rise 1 proto that exists and also a 3DO beta as well.

If anyone has these and they'd like to sell please contact me.

    Thanks
