    Default Philips CDI owners

Just curious who are the CDI owners here and how big is your collection. I saw this system once at a store in the early to mid 90's and thought nothing special of it when I tried it. To this day I believe that is the only time I have ever played the system. How about you what is your story of how you encountered and owned the system and what games do you have for it.

I used to play it at the library way back when. They only had stuff like Battleship and Connect Four though. They had the Zelda game but it didn't run.

I have a fairly large CDi collection which contains all of the Philips released software that was sold either at retail or via their catalog through PMPRO. I also have hundreds of training and presentation kiosk discs from companies around the world and a ton of white label demo discs, European demo discs and even some unreleased proto games.

I first saw the CDi on a huge display unit at a Southern California chain department store called Fedco which was sort of like a west coast version of Target (before Target bought most of Fedco's former locations in the 90s) but more discount merchandise oriented in some ways. The FMV games were a huge draw for me as my PC wasn't capable of playing them at the time and for a while, the only electronic version of Axis & Allies which was one of my favorite board games was a CDi exclusive. I didn't actually buy a CDi until well after they pulled out of retail and the software could be purchased for under $5 a game.

I have the Magnavox remodel of the CD-i that was released in 1994. I've got just a small amount of games for it, I think about 9 of them and 2 movies in CD-i format. The only two games I really care for so far are Tetris and Mutant Rampage: Bodyslam, but since Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon has some funny cutscenes it's cool to keep that around for comic relief. The other games I tested once to make sure they worked but I never play them. I'd rather sell them.

Is there any interest in CD-i games here as far as buying and selling goes? The stuff I have is probably pretty common online though.

I've got these movies for it:

Naked Gun 33 1/3 (definitely keeping it)
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (I'm not much of a Trekkie so if someone wants it really badly...)

I have 16 games, and hate them all except for the 7th guest, though I have that for DOS so it's not like the CD-i version is really a monumental must-keep game.

Everything either plays like a retarded DVD "extras" menu game, or is some kinda disaster and a half with stupid FMVs, and by FMV I mean, HMV (half motion)

    Voyeur? ...Inca?.........aasdf43waoiofekaff

best game on the system is probably the micromachines racer
    Aetherbyte: PC-Engine and more homebrew

I own one, along with Voyeur, Palm Springs Open, Mystic Midway: Rest in Pieces, A Great Day at the Races, Caesar's Palace World of Gambling, Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia, and Smithsonian Institute The Riches of Coins. I also have four CD-I format movies: The Firm, Patriot Games, The Hunt for Red October, and Sliver.

The CD-i is amazing for an edutainment machine. Dragon's Lair II is in my top 25 games of all time. The other Bluth FMV games, Faces of Evil, and Wand of Gamelon are also among the best games of all time. There's a lot of other decent games like Myst and 7th Guest available, too.

I became interested in the CD-I after I found eight or nine complete games at a thrift. That was five years ago. I didn't get a CD-I system until 2007 when I got a complete with box 450 model and the seller threw in a couple of other games including two Sesame Street games and Video Speedway. With that said, I still don't have a Digital Video Cartridge for it so it's pretty much gimped until I find one of those. I've got a few decent games for it already, but many of them require the DVC to run. The ones that don't require the DVC pretty much suck. That's the biggest drawback of the system. The other is the wand controller. One of these days, I'm going to play my copy of Little Divil!

Hell yeah, I'm a Cd-I Trekkie, I never had a cd-i format movie, are there any extras on those?

I have one and have exactly 0 games for it. I bought it at a fleamarket from a woman who thought it was a regular CD player for $20. Just never got into collecting for it because it would have to be an eBay thing. I don't run into games for it in the wild here.

I'm just selling some CDi stuff, but it's for shipping within Germany only, Europe I consider:

i own one and about a dozen games for it. i have a copy of wand of gamelon... lucky me... er not

in the day (93 or so?) i played a store display at an electonics store. it had the palm springs open golf game. it was really impressive. it had real life abc sports graphics, real voice over, real sound effects... and since golf games do not have a lot of action, the gameplay was just as good as any 16 bit golf game. it was probably the best display game the cdi could offer.

but in general, the "games" on the system are pretty terrible. the controllers are not very accurate and have a lot of lag. the cdi wasnt designed for real time, split second reaction gameplay. trying to shoehorn those types of games was a bad idea.

First and only time I played it in the 90's was at a department store called The Broadway, which got bought out by Macy's later. They had a golf game on display. It was mildly amusing.

    Games I've got

    1. DARK CASTLE
    2. MYSTIC MIDWAY
    3. COMPTON'S INTERACTIVE ENCYCLOPEDIA
    4. HOTEL MARIO
    5. A VISIT TO THE VALLEY OF PUEBLA AND THE AMPARO MUSEUM
    6. BREAST SELF-EXAMINATION
    7. GOLF MY WAY (video)

Most I've found in the wild.

I don't have a whole lot for it. Maybe 30 or so games. I did just end up with sealed copies of both Faces of Evil and Wand of Gamelon. I know they suck, but is it worth opening them up just to experience how bad they suck?

I have about 1/2 of a US collection including the homebrew Frog Feast, several movies, white labeled demos, and system variants. I currently have a CD-i 490 hooked up in my game room.

i have somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 discs, most of which are movies or white label demos. i bought it all from an ex-programmer my aunt knows. through conversations turns out he had a few early proto or development systems(he was kind of vague about them, using model numbers) he threw out because they quit working
